|
|
I have an XLS with a 2GB SD memory card, with USA/Canada and UK/Ireland maps. Last week HOME wanted to upgrade me to V8.010. What a mistake. I can no longer connect my XLS to the computer when the satnav boots. Also, when I try to operate my XLS from the computer, it has to download a file... every time. I wanted to restore my old backup which at least worked. Nope. Now HOME doesn't even recognize that I have an SD memory card.
So, I can't get updates, since it won't connect, and I can't back up.
Any advice? Can I format my SD card and then restore my old version? |

Do you have a backup pre-update? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I do, but HOME will not even recognize that I have the SD memory card inserted. It says I do not have enough memory to restore my backup. |

Well, unfortunately, when I plugged my card in (with a card reader), my computer couldn't access the card.
Thanks for the assist, however. I need to get this working, since I travel to the UK from time to time, and my satnav has been a lifesaver! |

djarboe, have you another computer that you can try the sdcard in, looks like it has become corrupt in some way. If not perhaps you could try another card. |

Sound as though the fault is deffinately with your card. Hopefuly you backed up using Explorer not HOME in which case you can copy all the files onto a new card and it should work.
If not, you may need help from someone else on the forum who knows more about it than me. I think if you put your new card in the device, HOME will download & install the application (stand to be corrected on that) but I'm not sure how you would then get your map back off the computer. _________________ TT Go Essential |

Well, I do not have an Explorer backup, only a HOME backup (lesson learned here.) Based on what I saw on another forum site, here's what I have done now.
Go to Add Maps, Traffic, Voices, etc.,then Items on My Computer. From the list under Applications, choose TomTom Applications for One XL (10.5 MB). Click Add. Do not choose the TomTom Application for One XL T.
This worked, at least partially. I am now back to V7.167, and connectivity with HOME is back, but...
1. My Favorites are gone.
2. I still cannot do a Restore from HOME. It still thinks my SD card is missing, even though it is running off the card. But, when I operate my XLS from my computer, it recognizes that there is 2GB of memory.
Any ideas how on a path forward? Or am I just digging a deeper hole? |

I'm WAY beyond my knowledge level here. Thanks for your assist. Hopefully someone will jump in here with a new idea.
If all else fails, I may try a new card, and try a Restore after I get it reloaded. |

Well, I'm finally back to pre-update status. Here's how. First of all, I found my card reader was no good. My laptop has a slot which the SD card fits into very nicely.
Anyway, I stole the 2GB SD card from my wife's camera (which she does not yet know.) I formatted it in the laptop and then put it in the XLS. After HOME started up, it wanted me to disconnect and reconnect the unit. I did this, but still don't understand why. So, I then did a RESTORE from my pre-update backup. Everything is back to normal, including my favorites.
A message to TomTom. If it's not broke, don't fix it. |
