Hi,
Does it take longer for my unit to acquire satellites if I'm on the move (in the car) or is the GR-230 just slow?
Its weird because I'm sure it used to be faster than this when I first bought it.

If you commence your drive it will take a lot longer sometimes to acquire satellites. If you sit and time it in car, you should be looking around the 1 min mark, certainly less than 1.5 mins. |

Yes.
The receiver needs to have an uninterrupted view of the satellite for long enough to get the clock and ephemeris data in order to "aquire" it. This data stream is sent continuously and repeats every 30 seconds.
If the signal is interrupted (as it often is when you are moving) during the aquisition then it has to wait another 30 seconds until the data it missed is retransmitted.
Once it has the initial lock, it can reaquire the satellite almost instantly. |

Hi Skippy,
Thanks, that make sense because when I start driving it can take anything up to 5mins before I connects.
