Is it possible to totally reset my 500 and not just reset the factory settings so that it is 'as out of the box'? Also, is it worth buying a newer version TT(£350:00ish) over my 500? Ta!

I thought "reset to factory settings" WAS as it is "out of the box".
You do mean using the menu item called "reset to factory settings" and not just pressing the reset button, don't you?
As for update, if you are happy with how your present unit works and you don't need all the extra bells and whistles like Text to speech, FM transmitter, mp3 player etc and you don't need to slip it into a shirt pocket, I'd update the software to v7 and get a new v7.10 map (they've just come down in price) and stick with what you've got.
EDIT: Ahh, maybe if you are still on v6 software you haven't GOT a "reset to factory settings" menu item! I can't remember when it first appeared!
The other obvious way to return it to it's "out of the box" state, is to re-install the back up that you made on day one (didn't you!)

I so wish I still had my old Go300 running v6 software, to do comparisons with v7 and to check whether things are compatible between the two. Would be so handy.
Still, I supose if it was still working, I'd never have bought the new one!

Currently got 2 tt500's I think they are good units, would not swap them for anything. I run my own taxi business, one is in the vehicle and one in the office for doing quotes. The 500 is somewhat a better build than later models, more robust!
The Vehicle one I have just updated the map and software. Very few problems in doing so. Just a matter of a bigger sd card (2gig) and reloading the camera files.
The office one still runs on the shipped map and software.
In both cases I have kept the master shipped sd untouched. I always work on a backup sd card that way, I don't mess up my machines. I could just put the master sd back in to return to the factory shipped settings.
ALL WAYS USED BACKUP COPIES
I back up using Windows to just copy all folders and files to a folder on my PC, then put a new card in the tt and manually copy the files back to the sd card from the hard drive.

Cyclists!
I get points for everyone I knock off, 0 to 5 yrs 1pt, 5 to 10 yrs, 4pts, 10 to 20yrs 10pts, (they are a bit nippy so not as easy!), 20 to 40 yrs 8pts, 40 to 60 7pts, 60 plus very rare animals 10pts. Cycle clubs, double points for every one down. Racing teams, triple points, you've got to catch um first.
After 12 months, if you don't get court, first prize is a trip to Spain til the fuss dies down.
As a taxi driver I have to have a squicky clean Lic. Advanced CRB and all that, so I do drive very, very carefully. _________________ Want to get lost, forget your Tomtom next time you go out?

I take it that "court" was a deliberate smarty pants Midlander euphemism for "caught"?
Anyway, a zillion years ago I played in the band of my RAF camp. One day we were playing whilst marching along the road leading a marching thing, when a car came up alongside the long column. An oncoming vehicle presented an obstacle to him, so he pulled in - right into us!! He took out the front corner, diagonally from about five rows back. It included me, on the front row, playing the double B flat Base, which was, of course, strapped on me. I ended up sitting on the road wrapped in B flat Base. Fortunately it was in the days before black VW Golfs, so he took us out quite gently and nobody was seriously hurt. But we took him for several new band instruments!! I wonder how many points he got? How many do I get for deers and peasants? _________________ Dennis

Deers are minus 10, (they make a nice mess of your bonnet, unless you drive a moose proof volvo). Old dears, on the other hand are a third of the value of over 60's on bikes. (They are easy targets and a zimmer in your rad. is the down side).
Now a well hung peasant, is someting you don't see very often these days. They tend to revolt at the drop of a hat. A revolting peasant is fair game, but as they are "Common" they just count as half a point each.
Now to gets the points, you first need to log the "hit" position as a POI in a file called DR2000. This is then sent to and confirmed every month by an independant competion officer working from newspaper accounts and police reports. Winners are notifield by a small ad. in the AutoTrader. _________________ Want to get lost, forget your Tomtom next time you go out?
