|
|
....a very un-techie question, but I want to buy the Mafia guy voice from the TT website and use it on my TT1 Europe, but when I get it to check-out, says it not able to use it on our device
Any ideas what I should be doing/have missed/is a simple solution?
By the way, great site! (more hours in front of the computer for me then?)
Cheers

Nothing as far as I know. But I thought that as John Cleese was a recognised name, the chance of someone knowing what I was talking about from the title of my post was higher if I 'name dropped'!
The mafia guy is on the same list as JC, and its him I really wanted. I have searched hundreds of messages now (using the 'search' facility above) and am still none the wiser.
The message when we try to buy it from the cart is 'You do not have the correct component'.
Surely TT official voices, purchased from the website are downloadable to all their TT range? Or maybe not |

I believe that TT have changed the way that the voices are programmed into the devices, iirc they used to be chk files, but they were easy to get via "illicit" means, so they've changed it. |

Thanks for the reply Wazza G.
I'm not sure where that leaves me then, does that mean that there is no way round it? Those voices can only be used with other TT models, not the One Europe? |

As it's from the TomTom website, I think you will be best off asking them why it won't work.
UK support number is:
0845 161 0009
Monday - Friday: 08:00 to 20:00 GMT
(every first Tuesday of the month: 09:00 to 20:00 GMT)
Would be very interested to hear what they tell you.... |

Thanks guys. Perhaps I won't bother ringing them, as faith in their support services doesn't seem that high!
(Quite apart from the fact I can't ring that number from here in Spain (doesn't work, a bit like my TT)!!
Oh well, back to the drawing board. |

Sorry, didn't notice you weren't in the UK. There may well be a Spanish support number, but you can always post a question on their website, you just don't have the satisfaction of crying with frustration at a real person!
You have to register on the TT website and then go to any one of their "helpful" FAQs. Once you've gone through the hoops, at the bottom of their answer should be a "Contact us" link. It's the only way to do it, but you can get to it quite quickly once you've realised you don't have to read anything first!

I had john cleese, ozzy osbourne & sexy selena on my old tomtom one which had 3 files for each voice A bmp file, vif file & a data chk file I moved these into my 720 voice file and they work fine.
maybe someone could tell tar23 how to create a data chk file that would help solve his problem. I did actually google this but came up blank. |

That would be good thanks. Do you think that might mean I would be able to download the 'mafia' guy voice from TT site then?
Not so interested in JC as I think I would probably throw the TT out the window in irritation after five minutes!
My OH is very good at sorting this sort of thing, but is working hard on a project that is taking all his time, so am hoping to be able to sort this myself. All this advice is much appreciated.
