I've just taken delivery of this unit and for my needs I'm very pleased with it indeed. However, in the limited time I've had to play with it I may have possibly stumbled on an issue (although to be fair I haven't fiddled too much). When I went into the new "Help Me" section and then selected "Find my nearest Doctor" or "Find my nearest Vet" it came up with a whole list of French based practices - all very handy apart from the fact I was in London.
Can anyone with this unit replicate this or anyone offer an explanation? As I said I really haven't had a chance to play that much so maybe it's operator error/miss-understanding - I'll update this post if I find this to be the case.
cheers

It's a known problem.
If you do a Search for nearest doctor and select Search for all Terms, it will return 10 Threads, including your own, where the subject is mentioned.
You obviously live in the South East. _________________ Richard

Cheers for your quick response Indeed I do live in the South East.
Is there a work-around and/or do I need to disable something to get this function to work properly? Sorry, bit of a newbie regarding SatNav so didn't quite understand your explanation and would like to fully understand the issue so if you have the time (or indeed the inclination) could you re-explain the problem. Basically not sure about your reference to "Search for all Terms" do I have this as an option as I cannot remeber seeing this mentioned in the software.
Also, is this a long established "Known Problem" that can or is likely to be addressed by Tom Tom?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

At present those who have the MapShare facility are adding POIs in their own locality. Hopefully these will filter through in time. _________________ Richard

Ooooops, I'm being a bit of a luddite aren't I - your reference is very clear indeed. I'll put my daftness down to being a bit stretched at work and my mind being on half a dozen other things
Cheers

To expand on Oldboy's answer, the problem you have is not an actual fault - the unit is working as designed. What is wrong is that the content is not up to scratch.
Rather like a map being out of date and missing new roads, what's happened here, is that TomTom bought a collection of POIs (points of interest). Some are good, others not so good, others appalling (on my last unit "Libraries" had ONE entry and that was spelt wrong!)
For doctors, the supplied data for the UK and Eire only had them clustered about Dublin, while the Western Europe map had those plus the continental ones.
Personally, I think TomTom have acted disgracefully, but when I complained they just said "Tough, use third-party POIs" |
