Is it me or is there a limit on the distance to camera warning ?
If I set it to more than 300 yards it doesn't seem to work very well, 300 or less and it is OK
thanks

No problem with my P350. I've set mine up for a 15 second warning which, as you can see from the following, I've set mine to 587 yards for 70 mph, 513 yards for 60 mph etc.
Quote: | Mph - 30s - 20s - 15s – 10 secs warning.
70 - 1173- 782 - 587 - 391 yards
60 - 1026- 684 - 513 - 342
50 - 879 - 586 - 440 - 293
40 - 732 - 488 - 366 - 244
30 - 588 - 392 - 294 - 196
20 - 441 - 294 - 221 - 147 |

Lost Property,
Where did you get that schedule of speed / time from?
I have reviewed the calculation and each rows distance in yards should be for the speed above it in the table.
The easiest example to see is the 60mph one - 60 miles in an hour, 1 mile in a minute, in 30 seconds you would cover half a mile or 880 yards.
"880 yards" is set against the 50mph 30 second warning - 879 yards.
Overall, the table is not a problem because it gives you a longer warning than you think you are getting. I'm just being a pedant with numbers.

That's correct. My thinking was, if you are travelling at 70 in a 70 limit you don't need a warning but should you be travelling at up to 10mph over, you would. :D
The same applies to all the others. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

That's two of us.
e.g. When Concorde did it's last flight to New York, it was mentioned how much fuel it would use for the trip, I worked out it would take me 60 years driving my car to use the same amount of fuel. :P Sad eh? _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Yes, you should buy an old American car. I reckon you'd achieve it within a year that way!
Serious question now: How do you set up these multiple warnings in TomTom Navigator? Am I right in thinking you add the extra warning points as POIs? I can only see an option for one warning in Warn When Near.
Thanks
Mike

If you want to have the different Speed Warnings, then you will need to have the different Speed POIs (Speed Zoned Files). _________________ Richard

I read this a different way, although Oldboy is probably right. (As usual). :P
If, as I read it, you mean two warnings for the same camera, maybe one at 30 seconds and another at 10 then.... if I remember rightly from a previous Post.
Use the Speed zoned files.
Copy the files to your device and set up the different warnings e.g. Set 30mph at 588 yards to give a 30 second warning.
Go back to your download and rename the files, leaving them as they are but adding an X on the front.
Copy thes files to your device and set the 30mph to 196 yards.
(Remember you will only have to set these distances up once).
You will now get a warning at 30 secs and at 10. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

To my original question I have the answer...I removed and re-installed the software and the speed warnings now work OK - at any distance !
Obviously something screwed up but it is OK now.
Thanks all for your replies, as a newbie I am impressed ! |

Sorry to hijack your thread David!
Thanks Oldboy and Lost_Property. I have aldready set up the single speed warning and used the zoned files.
Lost_Property, that is what I was on about. I read it in another thread, but I can't find it now to refer back to it! Would I have to re-name the actual OV2 files, bitmaps and also the special OGG files to match? Would these extra warnings mean that I've used up more of my POI allowance?
I've got all the zoned files installed, plus about 8 extra custom POI categories, so I haven't got room for many more.
Thanks
Mike

That's a good idea. I was thinking of using the zoned advance warnings as I have them set up now, then have a generic warning via a the non-zoned alerts right where the site is, or just before, to highlight the actual position.

By the way, what program are you using to convert .wav files into .ogg? I was experimenting with the voice synthesizer on this site:
http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
I found that Audrey - UK English was had the best pronunciation. I did intend to use Charles, but some of the word endings weren't as clear as with Audrey!
