I bought a 310D in the summer and I thought that one got free map updates for life with pretty much any sat nav system.
Was I wrong? It seems that I'm gonna have to pay an unlock fee once I get a DVD sent through.
Seems a little harsh - buying a sat nav system for £400 which you then
have to pay additonal money for each year just so that it can navigate you around the country!
I know this post is a little late, but I've been between jobs and only had my (far superior but) unsupported by Garmin Mac at home. |

You don't have to get the updated maps, the existing maps will continue to work. If you choose to get the updated maps then you have to pay for them. Personally I don't intend to update this year, might consider it next year. |

same as paper maps really. if you want an updated version you buy one. if not then you make do with the fact that you saved some money but the information may be a bit out of date.

The mapping companies charge companies like Garmin every time they provide a new map to a customer, and so Garmin have no choice but to charge the customer. If you wanted free updates for life you would find the initial cost of the SatNav unit would go up by thousands of pounds. |
