It appears that the V6 application is compatible with the older maps, I therefore expect TomTom to release the V6 upgrade as FOC update.
That will mean that all their products are running the same version, I suspect they will then leave it to customers to decide if they require a map upgrade or not. If they do they will have to pay the normal price, I do not expect any discounts this year. |

This is what TT did last year, and why V6.12 appeared, albeit somewhat briefly, on TT's website for download. _________________ Richard

No true, last year you had to pay for an upgrade which included both new maps & application software, you could not download V5 application on its own and use it with the older map files.
This year I beleive you will get the new application, V6 free of charge, and it will work with both new and old map data. This gives the customer the choice about paying for new map data or sticking with their current version.
This approach will also solves the problem with Navigator customers receiving the complete European maps last year. Instead of having to upgrade all maps the customers decides which ones to upgrade, just the one or the whole of Europe. |

I've just realised that you are talking about TTN3 upgrading to TTN5. In that case the V5 app wouldn't work with V3 Maps.
Being GO orientated I was thinking of the V5 app that would work with the V4 Maps. _________________ Richard

having had a quick play with a go 910 - the app changes on the surface are so minor it would be more like v5.3 .
Not bothered about the app at all (provided it works) JUST WANT UPTO DATE MAPS _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

Hi there
It would be nice..... but does it make good commercial sense to do this?
Bearing in mind how much the license costs for the Teleatlas data and the development cost of V6 TT would be loosing serious cash giving the new version away and reducing the income to pay the corporate reseller license for the map data.
Just a guess but I think the recent "aborted" general release of V6 was another mistake from TT as they didn't realise it would install with older map versions and it was only intended for the x10 range.
I do hope you are right but I'm not sure it would make sense for TT to do this due to the amount of sales they would loose giving away free software that has cost time and money to delvelop which is also an incentive for existing users to purchase updated maps.
Let's hope _________________ Thanks,

I think my take on this is thus:
I want updated maps.
I don't want to buy a map update today only for TT6 to be released tomorrow (fictional times here btw) with the potential for a map upgrade price of less than a new UK map.
Therefore I will wait for TT6 to be released before I buy anything.
