Hi all,
I'm new to this - only just got my Mio P550 with TomTom Navigator 5. Really pleased with it, wonder why I didn't get it earlier :D
The help I need is that the TomTom comes on a supplied SD card. I bought a larger 1Gb card (so I could put Speed camera POI & additional maps on it).
Can anyone advise how I do this? If this is nor a new question can you point me to the previous topic.
Many thanx

Here's 3 ways of doing this.
1) First create a backup, then restore the backup to the larger card.
2) Plug the TomTom into the PC using the USB cable and switch on the TomTom, this will then show as a "Removable Drive" then copy ALL files to a folder on you PC. Change cards then copy back to the larger card.
(Make sure you have, SHOW HIDDEN FILES and FOLDERS) selected from the tools menu.
3) Plug you existing card into a card reader and copy ALL files to a folder on you PC. Change cards then copy back to the larger card.
(Make sure you have, SHOW HIDDEN FILES and FOLDERS) selected from the tools menu. "This is also the quickest way" _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |

Hi!
I am the annoying "I have one of those and it doesn't work!" person.
I've just bought the Mio Digi Walker P550 PDA and TomTom Navigator 5
and its not working.
I think I've configured the Com ports in the Windows side of things, and I've got TomTom saying "No valid GPS signal!" as opposed to "No GPS device".
TomTom says this with the settings 4800baud, GPS_COM
Windows settings says that the hardware device is COM3, the software port (?) is COM2, and the let windows manage GPS is unticked, as default.
A bit of freeware software I downloaded identified a GPS device on what it called "port 2" which wasn't helpful, but did confirm the baud rate as 4800. This software was called AutoDetectGPS.exe
Any thoughts, anyone?

OK, well I have managed to get a signal!
I didn't do anything that I hadn't done before. I can now navigate anywhere around the UK, provided I stick to the tops of 5 storey or higher buildings!
Yes, the only place I could actually get a fix on my position was on top of my office in central London.
This does NOT bode well!
I think criticisms of the reception quality of the Mio P550 are well founded.
I think I may have to get a refund and look for something a little more reliable.

Many thanx, I followed your option 3 and it worked perfectly. Obviously when I tried it before it was not copying over all the files.
I should be able to add the camera POI now
cheers

Phil,
I have the P550 and have not had any real problems (this was about copying the TomTom card and not about the P550).
What I have found is that it can take a little while to find the satellites. When it does it has worked perfectly.
Perhaps you have been unlucky with your PDA

Geoff,
Glad you got it sorted.
Yes the important point is "Showing the Hidden Files and Folders" I think this is where most people are having trouble. _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |
