Hello all, right like many others, I cannot get tomtom to find my GPS Device.

I am using a Dell Axim x51v, a Compact Flash GPS Receiver, and have the latest version of navigator 5.210.

Now when i use any other GPS software, I select com4 and it works fine. In tomtom, I get the following options

CF_CARD_GE
Native IR
COM3
BT UART on COM5
Serial Cable on COM1

The last one was garbage until i did the reg tweak mentioned in other forums.

Ive tried all these options, the only one which seems remotely sensible is CF_CARD_GE

I have on one or two occasions managed to get the disc to spin, but it only does this for approx 10 seconds, then stops and has No GPS Device in top left corner.

Under GPS on the Dell settings, i have the program and hardware ports set to none. If i have these set to any ports, then I cannot get any GPS software to function.

The other funny ive noticed is that under Tomtom Change preferences/show version, it says GPS Driver v1.20, although tomtom site seems to suggest the latest driver is v2.08 ? I tried installing this, but it seems to be a seperate program rather than a driver?

Anyone got any ideas to help? Ive tried various things mentioned in other posts but no sucess.

Gavin

What other software?

Have you by accident set the protocol to SiRF?

When I say other software, i mean GPS "Test" software, ie the stuff that shows your current position etc.

Ive used something called spGPSView
and APLsirf.

When i open the port in APLsirf, the data stream appears in the NMEA window, the sirf window is empty. I assume this means that its running in the correct mode for tomtom.

yes, that should be ok. Try your CF port with different baud rates. Possibly it needs something weird like 4800 or 57600

The GPS instructions said select 4800. Just tried the GPS test software with other baud rates, and don't get any data through at all unless its set to 4800.

Also noticed that the programs seem to hog the port even after the port is closed within the program. Only way to access it again is either a reset, or to pull the CF card out, then replace.

That is to be expected if you don't use a task manager. Before doing any kind of setup always perform a soft reset.

OK by doing a soft reset, i have managed to get GPS routed through to com port 7. Now when i go into tomtom and select port 7, i get the spinning disk, however it still never gets a signal. Any ideas?
