Not that I'm thinking about it just yet, but, what happens to all my legitimate, paid up software when I eventually 'pop off?' Can my kids just pick it up and run with it ! |

Legally i don't think that they would be allowed, I am sure there will be clauses in the small print. As when you buy and register the software that software belongs to you only (or a company if it was registered that way). I don’t really think that is going to stop someone from picking up your PDA and using it for satnav when your gone. _________________ Regards

Depends on the license type.
OEM licenses (Windows, Office etc) are tied to the PC it was installed on, so they live on in the PC until it "pops off".
Retail licenses are owned by the purchasers but can be sold and transfered to new PCs. So a Retail copy of XP was be left to your loved ones.
As for personal licenses I'm not sure. You'd need to check each EULA to see or contact each manufacturer. However I'm pretty sure that the FBI / MI5 / Secret Police won't be trawling the Obituaries looking for houses to raid at 3am in case some orphans are still using that copy of WinZip their father bought. (Well not yet anyway) |

Just to further clarify the OEM license. The OEM licensed software is locked to the PC. The software can be sold or transfered to a new owner as long as it remains on the original PC it was installed on. So if you own the PC and it has OEM software installed you can pass the PC on with the software installed legally. |
