Many weeks ago I ordered TomTom 5 from
http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk It finally arrived today.
One SD card, a CD with a manual on it (I think, I haven't looked
yet!), and some instructions in a booklet.
First deleted TomTom3, then, as I don't have a dedicated card reader, used my Camcorder SD card slot to copy the TomTom SD card contents onto a preformatted 512 card. So far so good.
Put 512 card into the PPC (Dell Axim X30H) and held my breathe (just a little). Up popped a configuration menu. Followed the config through, it found my Fortuna Clip On GPS without problem. Activated the map (UK) at www.ttcode.com without problem.
Out into the garden to get a GPS fix. Ran the program. All worked just as it's meant, straight out of the box. Post codes working as expected, interface is fine (prefer it to TT3), map scrolls ever so much more smoothly than TT3.
Off for a three mile trip around town to see what it's like. Well
impressed. Faultless in operation, and much better screen detail and smooth rotation.
The only problem I experienced was that TT3 left a file behind called TTGPSENG.EXE when I deleted TT3, which at the time I didn't understand came from TT3, though I could have guessed. A brief trawl on Google told me others had seen this problem before, so into the PPC file queue to delete it and all is totally working fine.
No crashes, smooth program, good options, better maps. I'm pleased. |
