Hi,
I bought TTN right at the very beginning, upgraded to version 2 and then again to version 3. So I am a loyal customer. I like the product, it works well and over the years I have used it extensively.
At the end of the month I have to travel to France and would like to use my TTN.
This is however not possible, since I don't have the maps for France. Nor is it possible to buy them. TomTom has informed me that it is not possible to buy the maps for France as a standalone product. It is possible to buy the maps for all of Europe for Euro 170, which includes France, but this is very expensive. Why should I pay for the whole of Europe when I only need France? As well the product includes the maps for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, which were included in the original purchase of TomTom so I am throwing money out the window, paying for something which I already own.
Nor is it possible to buy the maps second hand, since TomTom will not supply a activation code for them since they do not support the secondhand market.
On the web site TomTom has announced that in the future I will be able to load down "City Maps" (not available at the moment - why not?), so the concept of loading down or purchasing the necessary, needed, maps has been accepted by TomTom, so why can I not just load down the maps for France and give my hard earned money to them for the pleasure?
My extensive, existing investment in TomTom Navigator appears now to be worthless. Why should I stay loyal to TomTom when their product is so non-future proof?
Why is the company TomTom so cavalier to its existing customer base?
