|
|
I have just received my new Golf GTi complete with the VW MFD2 sat nav system using Tele Atlas GB & Ireland 2004/2005 CD.
I am most disapointed in the detail that is available, even at maximum zoom level street names are not displayed unless you specifically highlight them with the crosshairs.
I like to see street names on the map so I can check streets as I pass them.
The VDO system I had on my last car showed all street names.
Am I missing some switch or something in setting the thing up?

You're not missing anything... It is not possible to display the street names on the map on your system. |

Not able to see street names on a £1700 built in sat nav system? I reckon this is one big rip off, even my little PDA shows street names.
I will never buy VW/Blaupunkt again.

Well, this applies to Ford, Mercedes, Skoda and lots of other car GPS's...
The built-in in-car GPS's can never keep up with the development speed of the PDA's.
You must remember that the MFD2 is a minor update from MFD, which came on the market 7 years ago.
The good thing about in-car GPS's is that they are connected to the car's motion sensors, and give you pretty precise guidance in multi-storey round-abouts, underground/tunnel intersections, between tall buildings etc, which a PDA can't. |

HI, Totally agree with you, I have a MFD2 on my VW Touran, and not very impressed with it. My Tom Tom Go, is far better.
I only have 2003/2004 maps on mine, does yours support TMC ie active re-routing?. I am after a copy of the later maps with that on - any chance for a fee of course?
Kind Regards
