Hi,

I am having a weird problem with power/battery settings.

I am looking at the settings on : Start menu, settings, system tab, Power, advanced.

There are options to turn off the device if not used for a number of minutes. There are settings for this on battery or on external power.

I want to change these settings, so I make changes on this screen, click on OK. The changes are not made, and when you go back into the screen the settings are back to the defaults (battery - selected, 3 minutes; power - not selected)

Anyone else get this?

I have been playing with the Mio utility power settings and that doesn't seem to change anything. I just want to stop the device turning itself off when on battrey power.

Thanks for any help.

Neil

Hello Neil

I use a Medion 95000 (mio168 re-brand), i like to keep the screen on at all
times if on battery or adapter, my settings in all of the menus are as follows, not sure if one menu interacts with others or not but this works ok for me.

Start - Settings - Power - Advanced :

On Battery power - box NOT ticked
On External power - box NOT ticked

Also on this page at the bottom :

Adjust backlight settings to conserve power.

on this page :

Drop down box - On Battery power (or) On AC power

Turn backlight off when device is not used - box NOT ticked

tap screen or press hot keys to turn backlight on - box NOT ticked

Click OK to go back to Settings - System, them select (in my case - Medion Utility) yours Mio Utility

I have several tabs across the bottom in this utility :

System - System Information - nothing to set or change

GPS - GPS Settings, on this page i can alter things, mine is as follows

Enable GPS Icon - box IS ticked
Turn on GPS automatically when opening COM1 - box IS ticked
Enable GPS by hot key - box NOT ticked

GPS Advanced - Battery mode with GPS

apart from Brightness Adjustment - which i have set at Dark

Turn backlight off when device is not used for - box NOT ticked

Turn off device if not used for - box NOT ticked

Smart Battery - have mine set for High Performance

Wake UP - Power Manager

SD slot powered off during sleep mode - box IS ticked

These items will wake up the system

Applications buttons - box NOT ticked

Record button - box NOT ticked

SD/MMC Card insertion/remove - box NOT ticked

USB Plug-In - box NOT ticked

OK back to normal screen, thats how all my menus are set, see if that works for you, if you try these settings, perhaps after setting them try a soft reset to see if that will keep them.

As a last resort you could try a Hard Reset, but you will have to set them all again, if you do a Hard Reset make sure to do a FULL BACKUP via ActiveSync first, remember also to set the Time and Regional Settings back to the way they were before you try to Restore, otherwise it will not Restore, check (BEFORE doing a Hard Reset) to see what was set in Regional - English (United Kingdom) or what you have it set to, so you know what to set it to before trying to Restore.

Excuse me if you know how to do a hard reset, some people cannot do the restore because of those settings and wander why it will not restore.

Thanks for this.

But my problem is that when I try and set the power settings they do not stay set. They revert back to the original settings.

So I would love to try your settings, but as soon as I hit OK and go back in then they are reset to turn (for example) turn off after 3 minutes when on battery.

Any ideas??? I really dont want to do a hard reset.

I tried to do a soft reset after making some of these changes, and again when you go back into the power settings (advanced) screen it has gone back to defaults.

Could it be another program that is over riding the settings?

Thanks

Hello Neil

I really do not know what is causing the problem, you could start each program and see what the options are, but apart from the ones i mentioned i would not think that another program could do that.

Can you set the time in the drop down menu for a longer period, would that help, or does that even work!

As i said the last resort is a hard reset, at least i would think that would solve the problem, if you do a hard reset at any time, then before doing a restore i would try the settings to see if it works before putting the other programs back, then at least you would know that one of them is in conflict with those settings.

Sorry i cannot give you any more advice as i do not know what else to suggest.

To answer the specific question - I can change any of the settings, but they all revert back to the defaults.

Very weird - anyone else have an idea?

Presuming your 'pin' is a mio168 clone, do a Full Backup via ActiveSync, check your Regional settings on the Start - Settings - System - Regional Settings icon, make a note of them, well the region, them un-connect from your main pc, remove your pin from its cradle or lead, turn off, then using the stylus, move the on/off switch to off (on the back of the unit), wait about 30 seconds then turn back on, follow the normal start up sequence, then set the Regional setting back to what they where before, re-connect to your main pc via ActiveSync, and do the Restore.

Hello MaRiO

Just a thought, you only need to do a Restore if you want to put back all of the things as before, if not just reload what you want.

OK - I have done some more testing.

Tried a hard reset. When no software was installed back on then all worked correctly.

Restored all my software and the problem came back.

So - one of my bits of software is obviously overriding the power settings.

Any ideas?

Something else - I don't think the device turns itself off when using Tom Tom, but it does turn itself off when using other utilities such as GPS Tuner.
