|
|
Hello all,
I'm after some advice for work. I'm looking at the feasability using SatNav to instruct some of our drivers to follow a very specific route that I tell it rather than a route from A to B.
Does anybody know of a solution that will handle this?
TIA

Hi Motoko,
If you use a package with an itinerary feature, you can use “drive bys” to force a particular route. TTNav3 for PPC has this facility.
I believe that CoPilot5 (again for the PPC) has a save route function, but I’m very much a beginner on CoPilot so I’ll let somebody else advise you on that.

Most satnav systems can do this, you just have to create a route with multiple via points. The route is usually exportable so you can copy it to other GPS units.
Some systems will let you create a route on your PC and then upload it to the GPS. You could create the route and give it to each driver and tell them to follow the directions.
Just out of interest, why do you want to do this? |

motoko,
CoPilot 5 will let you do what you want to. In addition, if the drivers are equipped with a both a Pocket PC and GPRS enabled phone with Bluetooth, then you can follow their progress on your desktop PC. _________________ Kam |

Thanks for everyones suggestions, I already have TomTom so I'll try with that first.
In answer to your question, Skippy, If we have a new driver (which happens regularly), he has to be 'taught' a route by another person. This means an extra body sitting in a cab for a week. I was thinking that the investment in satnav will be cheaper than having the extra bod.
Thanks,
