|
|
i must program my axim5 with tomtom3 over 30 times a days as i'm a freelance courier.
oftem i get GPS position unreliable come up and it takes an age to locate. sometimes, i've even turned the whole thing off and driven to somewhere nearby.
anyone know why this may be happening?
is my reciever on the way out or are all the satellites on their dinner break or something.
i have it wired into a cradle which then takes its power from the cigarette holder.
i do have a bluetooth card but i've never used it?
any ideas? |

- You don't say what GPS Receiver you have so it could be a flaw in that particular type of GPS. For instance Leadtek's are pretty reliable but there's been a lot of complaints about Rikaline's in the forums.
- If it happens on the same stretches of roads every day then it could be a mapping isssue.
- You may have an athermic windscreen
- The GPS may not have a complete clear view of the sky
- You may have some other electrical / RF equipment in close proximity or packing a punch and causing problems with the GPS
- You may have a faulty charging circuit, or your alternator may be putting out too much juice and this could be overloading the GPS circuit.
I could go on until midnight, but I'll stop there |

Don't Axim 5's have big problems with some SD cards?
What kind of memory card are you using? If it's a Chinese made one (Sandisk perhaps) then you may find the answer here as Tomtom will have a data access problem similar to that experienced by HP 2210 owners using a BT receiver http://sdprob.aximsite.com/

the card is a 128mb maxell.
the problem seems worse when i use ukposcode?
when i input a new postcode, that is when is starts to have problems.
for example, i navigate to somewhere then once i have arrived i then come out of navigator then use ukpostcode again to input a new full postcode then i get the gps unreliable position again even though its just got me to my last destination.
maybe it is something to do with ukpostcode?
i'm at my wits end now as its costing me so much time |

I assume that you have your postcode software on the SD card along with your TT GB map. As your problem seems to come when you are accessing two data sources on the SD card, you may well be suffering poor data access speeds.
In order to eliminate the card as a source of the problem, try a different card. Either a high quality Japanese made SD card or initially, borrow a 128mb CF card and try that. They tend to be faster and more reliable.

pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is a cf card? and what is so special about it?
also, would you have that in the pda alongside the sd card or not?
cheers |

Hi,
CF is compact flash. They tend to be faster and more reliable (and in many cases cheaper) than their size for size SD equivalent.
As you have an Axim x5 you will have both a CF and SD slot so you can use either format or both at the same time.
Using a CF card would show up any issues you may have with the SD card thus confirming or eliminating it as a problem _________________ Ian.
