I am trying to upgrade my 3970 from Pocket PC2002 to 2003 and am having real problems. I get so far then I get this message.
Error 100: Incompatible Image
The ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your iPAQ Pocket PC.
These are the characteristics of your iPAQ Pocket PC:
Model; iPAQ 3900
ROM Version: 2.10
Language English
The selected image information:
Model: iPAQ 3900
ROM Version 3.00
Language English
Please check Compaq Web site and download the correct ROM upgrade.
I have downloaded and installed the most up to date ROM (BIOS?) version I can find, V2.1
PLEASE HELP before I give my iPAQ flying lessons. |

I upgraded my 3970 recently. The upgrade went OK but I experienced problems running TomTom Navigator 3 so I decided to revert to 2002. I then encountered the dreaded Error 113 and thought that I had managed to trash the iPAQ. However, if you get to the same state as I did then all is not lost Have a look at my post at the end of the following thread.

Thanks for that. I think I will just stick to 2002. Does not seem worth the hassle. I only really wanted to upgrade cause the BT cannot connect to my Ericsson 700i phone and aparently it will with 2003. |

I too have updeted my 3970 to PPC 2003 and i am very pleased with the results. In PPC 2002 i could never get my Ipaq to connect to my Nokia 6600 to access mail/internet.My wife has the same phone but an Ipaq 1940 with PPC 2003 and her Ipaq connects straight away every time so I upgraded and everything works fine.
My only complaint is that I use a PCMCIA jacket and Netgear MA701 CF wireless card with adapter and i took me ages to configure it to my wireless access point, mainly because netgear dont make a configuration utility for PPC2003 and the zero configuration in PPC is anything but zero !
But i am glad i did. |

I reverted to PPC 2002 because of hang-ups when I was using TomTom Navigator 3. If you are using TTN3 is everything running OK? |

TTN3 works fine, the occasional lockup happens but it is worth it. |
