Hi, I'm new to this whole GPS business, but very keen to get one as they look like a cool toy. I'm a biker, and have looked at all the reviews etc and fancy something quite small but with good features, the TomTom Go also looked very good, but it was a bit bigger and more expensive. So I think I'm going to lump for the 510.
Got a a couple of questions:
1.) If I buy one in from the states as its quite a bit cheaper, will it come with the map(s) of my choice, or just the USA ones?
2) If it only comes with the USA one, is it just a case of putting on the UK maps? -It wont not work with anything apart from USA maps will it? -Is it universal?
3) Can you buy or download a pack of all maps there are in one go? I've seen free Gatso maps - are the other maps free?
4) Is there anything I should be aware of regards to power with a USA model one? -It wont blow up if I plug it in over here will it?
5) Can you get a cradle to go on a bike for this does anyone know?
Thanks for any help.

1. It will only come with the US maps.
2. You can put on any country's maps that are available but they must be the ones that are compatible with the 510 and the SmartST v3 software.
3. You can buy the maps from http://www.navman-europe.com/ but be aware that by the time you add up the costs, it may be cheaper to buy the unit here with the GB maps already loaded or even better, the premium edition with all of Europe maps loaded.
4. It shouldn't be a problem plugging it into the cigarette lighter as they are all the same but into the mains is another story.
5. Not sure about that one - Tim and Shirley Temple are the bikers on this forum! |

I'd be wary about mounting the iCN510 on a bike as it isn't weatherproof, particularly in our climate!
Never tried it on the bike but you could probably manage with it in a pocket using an earpiece to get the verbal instructions. |

Thanks for the input
I was thinking it would be ok to put it in my pocket and use it off 1 earphone too, if it wasn't waterproof which it sounds like it isn't!!
With regards to buying the uk maps - do I just ring them up and they send me out a disk? Or do I have to get a registration key and register it online or with their servers or something? Or do they give me a key over the phone and it just unlocks the software??
With regards to the power supply - Now I AM worried about buying one fromt eh states if I cant charge it off the mains, as it's not going in a car!!

You can buy the UK (£79) or Europe(£149) direct from the Navman Store.
The power supply that comes with the iCN630 accepts any voltage from 100-240 and also is a two-part affair so the plug part can be swapped for a UK style one. I expect the 510 PSU will be similar. _________________ Tim |
