I recently got a new ipaq hx2410, which is an amazing little gadget, and i love it to bits.
I thought the idea of the see-thru plastic flippy-flap was wonderful, and would protect my screen from any mishaps.
How wrong can one man be? I have a habit of keeping it in my jacket pocket, so its to hand when i'm out and about. Yesterday i pulled it out of my pocket, and guess what, theres a psychadelic multicolour swirly image on the screen, along with an 'interesting' tartan. a quick prod with the stylus has confirmed that the screen is broken.
All i can work out is my boy has probably stood straight on the screen. I cant be angry at him as its my fault for leaving it where he could step on it.
However i'm stuck with a useless ipaq. I can active sync to it ok, and explore the file system ok, and the charge system appears to work ok, so i guess its just the screen.
so my real question is what to do next (apparts from buy some kind of hardened child proof case), i'm not too sure what to do with it.. Are screens available? Would the HP warranty cover child induced damages? _________________ TT 730
That may work if i'd just recieved it, but you cant go back after a few weeks and say it arrived like that, i'm not sure what they'd say, but i think it would start with 'f', and end in 'uck off' _________________ TT 730
By using starting media player from one of the buttons, i believe the touch screen part of the screen is working (by tapping arround till it does stuff, like pause, fast forward etc) its just the display thats broken, still no good, but at least i know what to try to get hold of if the warranty arent interested. _________________ TT 730

Check the HP Warranty and see if it’s covered for accidental damage. Otherwise, if you bought it by a credit card, check to see if you’re covered by the card’s insurance.
If the above is no good, then have a look at the iPAQ Repair & Parts website.

I broke the screen on my Ipaq 1940 and my house contents insurer advised me that it was covered by my policy.
However in my case I had already made another claim recently for a lost gold chain and my policy has a £50 excess and 15% policy increase due to it being a second claim. Therefore there was only a matter of a few pounds differance in getting it repaired myself, which was £122.
I contacted HP and spoke to a very helpful guy who gave me a reference number and said someone from their repair department would contact me within 5 days.
3 1/2 weeks later, after I had sent it somewhere else they finaly contacted me.
Sent it to Ipaq repairs and was very happy with the service, unfortunately cost wise the screen seems to be about the worst thing you can break.
Also bought a hard aluminium cover form Ipaq repairs, about £20, and I am very happy with this.
I would recommend getting one of these covers to anyone with a PDA as I am still not completely sure how my screen was damaged.
In my case front, touch screen was completely intact with no signs of scratching, cracking etc but LCD tablet behind was damaged, like a large ink spot across the screen.

Alan
Had exactly the same happen with my XDA II, sent it to the XDA repair centre who wanted £160.00 to repair it. Even though it was still under warranty they refused to repair it as they said screen bleed is not covered by the warranty.
As it is on an O2 contract and have insurance for loss or damage O2 spoke to the repair centre and it was repaired free of charge. _________________ Graham.
