Hi
I am just about to purchase a Tom Tom Go unit, Staples (the stationary store) do a 20% discount for teachers till next thursday and so, via my girlfriend, I can get one for £325 which I thought was a bargain.
However, browsing through this site this evening I have now found out about the new Tom Toms being released next month.
So, my question is - should I wait and pay 369 for a Tom Tom 300, or get the Tom Tom Go for 325 now?
From what I have read the 300 won't have the assisted satellite navigation or mains charger, but will have an anti glare screen. Is the ASN an important feature to have? I'm not too bothered about the anti glare screen.
My main concern is the upgraded software that the 300 will have - am I right in assuming that if I eventually get the version 5 upgrade CD from Tom Tom that the Tom Tom Go will have the same functionality as the 300? I don't really want to buy some hardware that can't support future software upgrades.
Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. This site is fantastic and I have picked up a lot of information, but has far too many posts for one man to trawl through them all!!
Thanks,
Rich |

In your situation it's probably down to the question if you need the BT connection or not... Traffic updates etc. If you don't think you need that then you can indeed take the old GO. _________________ Lutz

From what I have seen I think you can be reassured on the software side - an upgrade will be available for the Go to offer the features that the hardware can support - however this is unlikley to be free and if full postcode is enabled you may have to buy a bigger SD card . The main thing you will be missing by going for the Go is the Bluetooth connectivity and so access to Tom Tom Plus - of which the traffic subscription is probably the most desirable element.
I have found ASN to be of little use . It may be more important if you drive in cities with high rise office blocks or many underpasses.
My advice would be either to hold off until the 300 is available or wait a few weeks then go to Ebay and buy a secondhand Go once its clear how much the upgrade costs someone who doesn't have original proof of purchase . I can see no point in buying a new "old" Go even at 20% off.

I'd wait for an existing TTG user to upgrade… be plenty of "classic" models around for bargain prices I reckon…. |

Hello Rich (rgh1972)
Personaly I would wait for the new unit, yes it costs more but does include post code search which can be very useful, also the hardware may be better and faster as it will have been updated as well and will include the latest maps. |
