Altina G-Mouse GPS GGM308

I have just purchased a TOMTOM3 kit for my 2210. With it came an Altina G-Mouse GPS GGM308 gps receiver. It seems to be working ok but I keep getting a message saying. GPS unreliable when I'm planning a route. I have looked in the gps setting to pick the rick type of receiver. But the Altina G-Mouse does not exist. Like I say it seems to working ok on the tom tom gps setting. But I'm wondering if there is anyway to add the right drivers for it. Or if its not worth the hassle? Oh yes and the green light on top of it is flashing all the time.

If you don't know much about the GPS (most notably what chipset it's using), the safest option is to choose "NMEA 0183v2 4800".


There's no need to get a 'correct' driver - the fully supported GPSes allow Navigator to 'help' the GPS hardware get a position fix if it's struggling (the "Reset GPS for this location" tap and hold menu option), but that's not something that's especially important and I suspect most users don't even know the feature exists.

Fully supported GPSes allow Navigator to configure the GPS output to what it wants, but if all is working well, again, there's no need.


For the technical amongst you, almost all of the 'supported' GPSes are SiRF based GPSes - including the "Haicom GPS" setting, which is intended for SiRF based Haicom GPSes but not Evermore based Haicom GPSes. TomTom GPS knows how to configure SiRF based GPSes. All the SiRF options work the same - they turn on features in TomTom GPS to send commands to the GPS as I described earlier in this message.

There's also the SiRF options, which are for SiRF binary mode. There's few reasons to choose to use this.

I am using an Altina GGM308 with TomTom3 (on a Dell Axim X5), just purchased and have had similar problems. I have just been advised to set to the Rikaline 6010 but have not tried as yet.

I would be very interested to know how you are getting on with your Altina.

Thanks for the info I've only just got my PC working again. So its been a while since you posted a reply. But I have done what you said and all is ok. thanks once again.

Just to conclude on this one, I decided to change my Altina for an actual TomTom receiver and the difference is amazing!! With the Altina I suffered whenever I parked in a multi-storey car-park and lost the signal because when I drove out again, by the time it had picked up any satellites I would be well and truely lost. Also with the Altina I would get between 2-4 sats down to 0 (very often), but with the TomTom receiver I would get 6-8 consistantly.

Definately worth the bit of extra cash on the TomTom receiver in my opinion.
