The Navman can calculate ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) which seems pretty accurate. Does anybody know what they base their estimation on and if you're able to change it?

Seems to be speed (uses ave 60mph), distance to go. You can make your own calculation using these two factors and see the time to arrival and time to go changing on the screen on longer journeys. _________________ Gee-Pee

I think it uses different speeds for different road types. Motorways appear to be use an average speed of 60mph, minor roads much lower. I don't think you can change it. |

I would have thought the ETA was based on the route you have programmed into the unit then the satallite getting your position and speed you are travelling at. IE I was sitting at 60 on a dual carraigeway heading home, ETA displayed 6 mins, then i hit a fairly bad traffic hold up, which took about 5 mins over a 3/4 miles distance and ETA was 5mins when increasing speed after the jam. |

You're right - it does. What robertn means is that it takes a certain speed for a specific type of road, then adjusts as you drive. In my case, I tend to do around 80 or so on motorways, and I see the ETA dropping as I zoom along, only to see it climb again if I hit traffic. The unit has to have some 'base' to work from otherwise it couldn't work out an ETA at the start of a journey. |
