|
|
Hi,
Tomtom users who have downloaded French Aire POI's from http://www.campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm may have experienced some difficulty in using them with Tomtom 2 or 3. The icons show nicely on the maps but the lookup tables often do not populate when you try to do a 'find', 'navigate to' or try to locate nearby POI's from a map and the pizza rotates endlessly often requiring a soft reset.
I have opened up the downloaded files in POI Edit and found that many of the entries have large amounts of text (description etc) on them and suspected that it was this that was preventing the lookup tables from populating.
I have subsequently edited the entries so that each has a short single line of text and the lookup facility now functions as normal.
The whole operation takes about 30 mins on POI Edit but if other members would like, I will e-mail a copy of the edited POI files (less than 200kb) if they PM me with their e-mail address.

Steve,
Saw your comments re: the edited file on pocketgps. Could you email this to tf@email4us.co.uk. .
Taking motorhome abroad next year for first-time, have you any advice re: aires or camping in France in general?
Many thanks

Hi,
Only just spotted your post in passing - i'll mail you with the Aires POI file when I get a few mins.
Hope you realise that asking a Motorhomer for advice is a precursor to terminal boredom from information overload!

Hi Steve999,
Very interested in your campingcar aires pois. I am an old motorhomer but a new gps user. We use the aires in France when we can find them. My pc is the Medion 95000 cheapy from aldi, seems to work well in the cab without ext aerial, although ours is a small luton lp. The medion runs navigon/navigator4 software ,can I download the pois ? I guess I need to find out how to do this for speed warning, will the same s/w do this? or do I not know what I am talking about as usual
If you think this will be ok please em billmat@highstream.com. with your modified aires pois . I can also bore people silly with m/h tales.
Thanks Bill |

Hi Steve,
Got my French Aires installed ok. I used the download available in motorhomefacts , configured for navigator4 , and put it in the poi folder medion-navigator. I expect that I could have used your files but I just didn't know how. Thanks anyway.
cheers Bill |

Hi there,
Sorry - been away for a few weeks.
I'm not totally familiar with TT Go but I believe that it now supports user customised POI files??
Give it a try. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.
