Alturion are launching their latest version with RDS-TMC and UK maps shortly and I am awaiting a review copy. I'll keep you posted on how it performs. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have only just received the review copy after a long delay. Unfortunately Alturion have yet to tie up the licence fee with iTIS so there is no TMC Traffic Data yet
First impressions are something of a mixed bag. The Pro version comes with a full desktop client that can be used independantly with a suitable GPS. The PPC is powerful but has confusing menus and simple things such as setting a Home Location have so far defeated me!
The maps are clear and the display can be skinned changing it's look drastically, Alturion supply half a dozen examples and a desktop editor to create new ones.
I'll be testing it over the next week or so but in the meantime if you have any Qs ask in this thread and I'll try and answer them. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You can, you need a 3rd party util but it's easy to do and works well. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Some posting mention that TMC works in th UK, others say that there are no support files for the UK yet?
Is TMC not included? Or does it work, but if officially not included yet due to the agreement with iTiS |

I'm considering using the Alturion desktop SDK to implement a navigation system running on a PC in my car. I do want to use TMC. It occurs to me that, since Alturion lets you enter route blockages, given the TMC data stream it should be possible to implement the TMC re-routing myself even if TMC is not directly supported by Alturion in the UK.
The Alturion documentation for their SDKs is quite different for the desktop and PPC versions. The desktop SDK does not have much in the way of dynamic routing support for example. Is the functionality of both versions the same, or is the PC version really just for route planning?
Do you have any idea what the timescales are for supporting TMC in the UK?
Also, I'm waiting with baited breath for your review. It seems to be much too hard to get technical information out of both Alturion and Destinator.
Thanks for your help. |

I don't have any timescales but will check with Alturion, I think they are just tying up the licensing side. The PC version offers the full functionality and more compared with the PPC version so can be used as a fully fledged navigation platform.
The review is on its way but its a big product and with the PC client as well it's taking longer than originally planned! _________________ Darren Griffin |
