when i was posted (1999-2001) to cyprus we had problems with GPS recievers, they show your positionabout 200m out (to the east iirc) from the grid you are actually in.
then again gps enabled pda's weren widely available then, so baybe they have it sorted now. |

during that time it is likely that you suffered from Selective Availability (SA). It used to be enabled all the time and that was what caused the "no better than 100m accuracy" for Civilian users.
Since May 2000 it has been permanently switched off hence accuracy is now down to <5metres.
You can use any GPS system anywhere in the world, the question is can you obtain the maps to go with it?
You may find this site particularly useful. it has a Mobile Tourist Guide that has all the information you need to discover Cyprus including real time navigation capabilities.
There is a link for Cyprus maps here although I dont know the quality of them.

Apologies for that.
The site attempts to install an ActiveX control which must be the premium rate dialler.
As I have broadband, the PC is not connected to a phone line which is probably why I could not get access to the maps.
I have requested for the link to be removed. _________________ Ian.
