I have found that increasing the program memory allocation has made TTN2 far more stable on my setup (iPAQ 3970 & Emtac BTGPS). The remaining issue for me is Naviation to favourites, which sometimes works and other times doesn't - possibly connected with whether or not a route is already present.
Give it a try and post your results. I will carry on testing...so far, so good.

iPAQ 3970, Emtac BTGPS , TTN2 - recipe for disaster!!!! (not)
Received TTN2 today. Installed effortlessly. Activated without problem. Successfully navigated from work to home without fault, included two intentional re-routes. No problems as yet.
I seriously considered sending this software straight back to TomTom due to the problems people have had on this forum. But I am pleasantly surprised that things have run so smoothly so far.
The memory is still handled automatically. But I will consider changes based on above posts.
I'll report back |

My memory utilisation on my 3850 which has had no problems whatsoever has 13.28mb free, which is pretty much a standard, I always try to make sure there's 12mb free as I know there are other programs like SmartST Pro that do have problems with less memory. |

Your basic system appears to be the same as mine, but I am having problems. Have changed memory settings and system is a little more stable but still get problems with routing to Home and a few others where TTNAV just disappears. Can you advise where you store maps. I have whole UK on a 128MB SD card with approx additional 11MB of other files includeding POIs and a little music. Would be interesting to see how our systems differ. Did you install over TTNAV 1.5?

I normally store my maps on my SD 128MB card. Now that TTN2 is more stable, I'm going to try with maps on my CF card and see if that has any bearing on the problems with favourites. My SD card currently shows 29MB free with GB maps installed.
More trips today, so more testing en route.
Where is the favourites data stored?

Rob, SD card should be fine, providing that you don't have major fragmentation or lost clusters on the card. TomTom maps for me have always been stored on a 128mb ST Card, including TTN2 without problems.
Guys, I don't think it's an SD card issue per se, as we here are running on SD's and CF's and see no problem. It could be down to memory utilisation, which obviously is a necessity when it comes to bigger programs, but I could see it being more of a lost cluster/fragmentation issue.
Having said that freeing more memory hasn't seemed to have fixed the problem 100%, although it does run faster, and strangely enough others who have re-formatted their SD cards and put their maps back on also seem to suggest a slight enhancement with less failures. I'm really not sure what the problem is down to at the end of the day, I'm going to run more tests here and see if I can get a working copy to break, as this may give us more of an indication of what perhaps is compounding the problem. |

Excuse me . . . . . "Guys and Gal" if you don't mind!! I don't know what you are all talking about half the time, well, more than half the time actually, and my learning curve is still vertical. I am still here though and I nearly answered a question for someone the other day!!!!

Oh christ, I'm in trouble now!
I'm sure you'll pick it up as time goes on.
I can't speak for everyone here, but I've been on the handheld scene since the Palm's started, about 1997. From Windows CE devices I've had Casio a E105, Casio E125, Compaq 3630, 3660, 3850, 3870. You tend to pick up a lot over time, especially when you find yourself finding all the problems! |

I've been out about again today with TTN2, this time with maps on my Transcend 256MB 30X CF card. I have been playing with favourites and have been unable to make my system crash - all working as it should. I did experience TTN2 disappearing while driving on the M6, just before exit to M56 and TTN2 just disappeared without warning. I hadn't touched anything since I was driving at speed. Just started TTN2 again and it picked up from where it left off.
It seems that I have a usable system at the moment. Certainly 100% better than a couple of days ago when it wouldn't work at all!
I wonder just how much 'workspace' TTN2 needs, both in program memory and storage data on the memory card (if any). Any ideas anyone?

Hi RobMob, sorry it's taken so long to report back.
I've had another successful day with TTN2. I've done the same trip to work and back, I've veered off course, switched the iPAQ off and on again, but nothing has upset it. I too keep the maps on a 128Mb Maxell SD card, but I have no other info on the card as it is new. My iPAQ is new too, so I have installed TTN2 from scratch. Currently my memory allocation is 22MB of free storage space, and 10MB for programs. PC ROM Revision 2.00.00.
I'm not sure how much of this info is relevant, also let me know if you need any other info. Hope you get it sorted. I think it's stunning so far, it even compares to the Lexus Sat Nav system I used to have (didn't like the car much though!).
Aero.
