Hi All,
Being the clever guy that I am I managed to "misplace" my 4400 although I do SmartST Pro V2 which is pretty useless without the GPS Reciever. :-)
I am thinking about buying the 4420 with SmartST Pro V3. I was just wondering a few things about the new version as I haven't found any good reviews and comparisons between the two versions, does has anyone got any opinions on the new version of the software and how it improves on the previous version?
Does V3 support landscape mode on the Windows Mobile Second Edition?
Also, I see that the maps come on a MMC card with the 4420, does this cause any problems in trying to use them on an SD Card? I saw one person on Expansys complaining that V3 couldn't read them from the SD Card, just wondered if this was user error or whether you have to use the MMC card?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Your SmartSTv2 will work equally well with any other GPS receiver.
As for version 3, it's much better than v2 as it now has custom POI support so you can now have the safety cameras loaded and obtain audible and visual alerts.
Not only this but you also have the following enhancements:
Trip planner - Multiple Destinations (14 in total)
Itinerary (multiple stops en-route)
Base Roads of Europe
Nearest POI to your location (e.g. Where's the nearest garage ?)
Shortest Route vs Quickest Route with an Active Slider
Use motorways more or less using an Active Slider
Active Points Of Interest
Ability to Create, Import and Translate Custom POI's
2004 Map Data (Q3) M6 Toll, Silverstone by-pass
Enhanced Route Summary
Enhanced Zoom functionality
Routing across rivers and inlets using shipping channels
V3 does not support landscape mode in WM2003SE
You can discard the MMC card and load maps onto your SD or CF from the CDs just like you did with v2 using the SmartST desktop which incidentally is also a big improvement over v2. _________________ Ian.

Thank the heavens ST Desktop v3 is better than v2 - I find the desktop part of the software particularly 'Clunky'. v2 must have been pretty ropey!
The integration with the contact database is not as seemless as everyone would have you beleive. Pardon me for swearing but hasn't TomTom just brought out full postcode integration? If ever there was a chance of those NZers listening, I know what I want in SP2.
Still haven't solved the BT re-connection problem when I switch everything back on. Sometimes it works but more often than not I have to soft reset my iPAQ which is a really pain in it's cradle.
I still love it to bits for all it's foibles and can't wait to get some maps for rambling and use Ozi. _________________ iPAQ 5550 Navman 4420 BT GPS STv3SP1 |
