Click here for the POI alerts instructionsA PocketGPSWorld.com TomTom World Exclusive: Spoken warnings for POI alerts!

PocketGPSWorld.com have been producing their Safety Camera POI database for five years now. To allow the use of custom voice or other sound alerts we originally used third party add-ons and then more recently by creating a modified data.chk file. Now with the advent of v6 we no longer need to use a modified data.chk file to enable custom voice alerts.

All that is now needed is an audio file in .ogg format that has the same name as the custom POI which you wish to receive alerts for. To get you started we have created a download page with a selection of real audio alerts for use with our Safety Camera Database.

Click here to access the .ogg file download pages.

Please note that the data.chk file replacement method is no longer supported for all versions of Navigator EXCEPT TomTom Mobile 5. For that version you musts till use thisdata.chk file.

If you have any comments or questions please post them in the thread below.

I've just downloaded and installed.

Small point, but the warnings don't fully correspond to your list.

This is what I get

Beep 1 Gatso
Beep 2 Gatso 30
Beep 3 Gatso 40
Beep 4 Gatso 50
Beep 5 Gatso 60
Bell 1 Gatso 70

Bell 2 Mobile
Bell 3 Mobile 30
Boing Mobile 40
Bugle Mobile 50
Cow Mobile 60
Cuckoo Mobile 70

Polite 1 Red light

Polite 2 Specs

Polite 3 Temporary

I presume there is nothing at my end that could result this way ?

Which file did you download? The GO, Mobile or 2004/HP edition?

Thanks Mike.

Can I ask, what is in the TBA OV2 files. Are these cameras that just haven;t been classified yet for speed ?

The TBA (To Be Advised) files are those sites that have not been assigned a speed. You must use the TBA files as well else you will be missing a lot of cameras.

People are sending in speed updates all the time now so we will gradually reduce the number of entries in the TBA files.

Well done Guys!

How did your contacts at TomTom react to this?
I'm hoping they act in a similar way that TiVo do, as long as it's not infringing copyright or damaging thir business they turn a blind eye to any extras developed by users.
IMHO it can only increase their profile and sales, plus they get free 'market research' indicating what developments users want to see in the product ;-)

I only wish we weren't prohibited from fiddling with the Map data, there are a few niggling errors that could be quickly fixed,Provided it was possible to reverse engineer the encoding used :-S

Hi,
Im very pleased with the new voice sound and many thanks to all involved .
Just one minor thing though, the original sounds were loud and couldnt be missed where as the new ones are quieter and shorter. I was going to get round this by installing the original gatsos as well as the group ones and giving the original the bugle warning at a further distance , so in effect getting both warnings.

But, obviously my bugle has gone. I dont suppose anyone can tell me how to exchange the bugle for one of the new sound files( say just the gatso one) please?or could anyone tell me how to make my own sound files?

Many Thanks

Mark

Great work...Quick request I don't suppose we could have the 20MPH warning voice. I realise that space is limited but couldn't the credits be removed :D

I've currently got the 20MPH camera set to the standard warning (not speed specific) but it would be nice to have the full set of warnings

We're flexible as to what collection you want to use. Not all files need to be replaced. (with one exception - the credits have to stay in).

So send us a list of which file you want to hear instead of which built in one, and which ones to keep. Let's see how many variations will be requested.
