Is it just me or is the volume on the 168 with Copilot quiet?, (I have it set on TTS) recently I borrowed my mates Medion equivalent (Aldi package) to use in a hire car (diesel) in Spain and it seemed much louder than mine, any tips?
Cheers

Hi there!!!
If you tap on Start button on your desktop screen, then on the Settings button, in the drop down menu you'll see about 7 icons appear on-screen. Tap on the Sounds & Notifications Icon. At the top of the screen you will see a volume bar. Just move the little arrow from silent on the left up towards loud on the right. Then tap on OK in the top right hand corner.
Now load Copilot. When the program loads you should be at the Welcome screen with 4 big icons showing. If you tap on the word Tools, in the bottom left hand corner a window will display. Now tap on the word options, in that menu.
Along the bottom of the screen 5 tabs will appear. Routing, guidance, map, favourite and POIs. Tap on the Guidance tab.
There should be a box with 3 lines in it at the bottom. The middle one should be Amplify Speech Volume.
Make sure there is a tick in this box. If not, tap the box next to it. Now click on OK in the top right hand corner of the screen, and now you should have VERY loud speech.
I don't have it that loud on my Mio 168. I did test it on this but I don't want to blow the speaker up. |

Thanks Steve 101,
I had already done all that, but when I'm travelling at anything above 50mph it's still hard to hear - I have it centre mounted using a Brodit proclip and active mount - I don't think my car is that noisy it's an 04 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo - maybe it is!!
Is yours set on TTS?
It certainly doesn't blow my ears off!

In the CoPilot directory on the PPC is a file called PREFERENCES.CFG.
Within the parameter block [Speech] - 3rd up from the bottom - is a setting called "VolumeMultiplier"=3.
Backup this file first, then using Notepad change the value from 3 to 4 (perhaps even 5), and you will automatically have increased CoPilot's volume above that of the normal volume setting on the PPC. _________________ Nokia E65 & TT Nav6 |

Gripp,
Thanks for that - all done, all I need to do now is try it on a trip, how did you learn about that mod, and are there any others you would recommend?
Cheers

There was an extensive thread some time back about editing the STYLE.CFG file which enables you to change the road and background colours - which several of us have done successfully.
Whilst browsing around the CoPilot directory I noticed that there were several .CFG files so took a look at them. It was purely by accident that I discovered the volume parameter, tweaked it...and lo and behold...it increased the default volume.
An intrepid explorer could well find other undocumented tweaks...but always backup the orginal files first!! _________________ Nokia E65 & TT Nav6 |

I've had the medion and the mio 168 and can honestly say i found the medion distintly clearer, the mio was in fact very unclear at times, I thought it was the particular model i had, but the sound was terrible on the next one I had! I wish i hadn't returned my medion! |

Thanks Gripp,
I'd really like to mod my config, but I'm worried I'd be forever tweaking it, do you think it is possible for modified config's to be viewed/shared and downloaded?(a bit like WM2003 themes)
PS - Thanks for the advice.

There's an audio patch available for the Mio 168 http://www.mio-tech.be/downloads/default.asp
Don't install it on the Medion version as it causes the machine to hang especialy during a soft reset

I can confirm that I've successfully applied the Mio patch to my 168 and the sound quality is improved. _________________ Nokia E65 & TT Nav6 |

Doh! ignore my last post, I read the instructions on Mitac's website, however I'm not convinced it's any better - am I still missing something?
Cheers
