Do you need a permanent connection, or do you just want to be able to copy log files over? _________________ Lutz

hi lbendlin,
hmmm, wat do u mean by permament connection? in my case, i want to pass the log information whenever i am connected to gps. my scenario is like this:
1) when i connect my pda with the gps, i am able to receive the gps connection. able to see the signals, everything
2) i need to pass the NMEA information that i get from gps in my pda to my laptop.
i am using emtac bluetooth gps. and my pda is hp jornada. my laptop is tosiba.
by the way, i need to write a gps application in vb.net in order to read the NMEA information once it is transferred from the pda to my laptop rite?
thanks alot..... |

You can use a program called VisualGPSce to record the NMEA string to your SD card, then transfer the data to your PC. It saves it as a .txt file. I know it may not be the solution you are looking for, but hopefully it helps.
Here is a bit from their website...."VisualGPSce is a very simple application to allow the user to log and playback NMEA data. Currently, VisualGPSce is not complete and considered BETA/EXPERIMENTAL. There are no help files and no formal install. The executable file is self contained with all the libraries built in. Only the ARM based Pocket PC 2002 platform is supported." (I am not sure if it will run on your device)
I have used it many times for doing accuracy testing with various GPS devices.
You can find the program on www.visualgps.net

you can use infrared transfer but that will be pretty slow and cumbersome. Don't you have a cradle for ActiveSync? _________________ Lutz

thanks lbendin,
ya,i have a cradle for activesync. so when the gps is connected to the pda,the pda will get gos information from the gps. if the pda is connected to the laptop using activesyn, it will auto transferred or i need to install the software recommended by Brandon?
thanks everyone... |

What you want to achieve requires the following components
1. A GPS receiver ( you have your Emtac, so check that)
2. A PDA where you connect the receiver to (check that)
3. a software on the Pocket PC that communicates with the GPS and is able to record a logfile of the GPS data (What Brendan proposed - VisualGPSCE)
4. A PC where you can connect the Pocket PC to AFTER you have used the GPS, snd where you can copy the recorded logfiles to (via ActiveSync)
Do you agree? Or do you want to transfer the GPS data WHILE you use the GPS? _________________ Lutz

thanks lbebdlin,
1)ya,i have emtac receiver(a bluetooth one)
2)ya,ihave pda, hp jordona
3)i have a software named "CRUX-View" which is given by the gps to commumnicate the gps and pda. however, i do not know whether is it ablt to logfile of the gps data.
4)i have a laptop where i can connect to
ya,i agree with u of the procedures that need to be taken. if there a way to transfer the GPS data while you GPS,like what you have stated?
Thanks.... |

3) Crux_View is not good enough, you need VisualGPSCe or another program that can write log files
If - contrary to the described procedure - you want to transfer teh GPS data real time, then you do not need any GPS program on the Jornada. What you then need instead is GPSGate. But I doubt that will run on the Jornada...(unless it's an ARM processor Jornada) _________________ Lutz

No, you don't need Crux_View. VisualGPSCE is enough. _________________ Lutz
