I have the above PDA with GPS and I use it in a Vauxhall Astra Coupe (51 reg).

I am having problems with it picking up a signal when you first turn it on. Sometimes it'll pick up a signal within 2-3 mins, however other times it won't pick up a signal at all.

Is this due to the car and the type of windscreen it has, or could it be due to other outside influences.

I have noticed that the GPS signal is found quicker if the car/PDA is stationary.

Perhaps I need an external antenna, if so where do I get one from?

I'm not sure if your vehicle has an athermic windscreen or not.
How many satellites does the unit lock onto inside the vehicle when a fix is obtained? do you get more if you stand outside the vehicle?

The likely cause of your problem is the fact that you are moving before your device has a satellite lock. You should always try to obtain a fix whilst stationary wherever possible, trying to obtain one whilst moving can increase the fix time considerably especially if you are in a built up area.
