Traffic Plugin / GPRS data volumes

I've found a very useful answer on the TT support site that tells me how much data is typically transfered using the traffic module.

What's not clear is how much of the country is 'checked' when enabling the traffic plug in. Does it download incidents for the whole country, or just for the planned route?

If I then have automatic update turned on, again, does it just check incidents on the current route or for the full country?

Is it safe to leave GPRS connection on all the time - gprs is billed by data volumes, not duration right?

Hi Pete,

The traffic is downloaded (and checked) for the whole of the map that you’re currently using. If you’ve only got a small segment map then the downloaded incidents should be less than if you’re using the whole map of the country that you’re in.

Yes, it is safe to leave GPRS on all the time, if you’re in the UK. As UK mobile networks bill by the volume transmitted via GPRS and not the time connected.
