Look on the side with the Internal Antenna, Large White square.
With the antenna on the lower part, right above it is a 1cm square right
abouve this is a white rectnagle, short the two ends of this rectangle
together,(this won't hurt it any). Just ge a paperclip can touch it to both
ends, hold for 1 second to make sure it is drained.

Then above the rectanlge is a black square witha circle inside, do same as
above wiht this, and it should fix the problem, did for me. If I get the
problem again, I will try one of these at a time and see exactly which one
fixes the problem. I am going to send a suggestion to socketcom and suggest
they put a reset butoon on the back so we can just push it instead of
opening it up or sending it back.

Once I get some pics and confirm it does work(after mine breaks again) I will post a complete fix article.

Thnaks for the tip, can you explain what this does? I'm guessing that this just drains any remaining charge in the unit that may be stored in the capacitor?

Interestingly my TomTom BT GPS has dies in a similar way, charges fine but no Bluetooth light or link, I wonder if a similar fix may revive it?

the cap. acts like a battery which keeps settings like baud rate, last position, and other settings. When you shortt the cap. it drains the 'battery' and everthing is reset to default firmware settings.

Thanks leesmann

Very helpful with good instructions and I will certainly keep this in mind to try if my Socket GPS receiver completely dies on me.

Thanks. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the information.

A word of warning about this though. If your GPS receiver is still under warranty and you open it up you could invalidate your warranty. This isnt an issue if it solves the problem, but if it doesnt ...

Hi,

i have two socket gps modules. In the first there is the white rectnagle. In the second there is a PCB-Antenna !! Signed with ANT3. The left contact of the white rectnagle is connected to a IC. The right seems only to be a fixpoint. In this case i think you may shortend this antenna 1 up to 100000 ways, nothing will happend.

The second is a coil of copper, also a really small resistor for DC. So you replace a wire of copper with a wire of copper. In this case i think you may shortend this coil 1 up to 100000 ways, nothing will happend.

is there anyone who can explain how this solution works ?

Hi there

Can you let me know when this short should be done ie when the unit is completely drained or fully charged.

I bought mine on ebay 2nd hand and it worked great for a day - when I charged the unit overnight no green llight.

Is this a foolproof solution or can the unit be fried beyond repair?

many thanks

Cman

I have the socket bt gps, i tried the fix listed above, but no joy. Is there anything else I can try. It does work okay if i leave it to discharge overnight when it does intermittently go faulty and not display green led ?
