I have noticed that my windscreen is ~45 degrees so if I place my PDA (Dell Axim x30, pocket pc 2003 se) on the dash I could use it as a "head's-up display" if it wasn't a mirror image. Does anyone know of any software that will mirror image my PDA display?

Ha funny. In the old days there was a batch of iPAQ 3630's with incorrectly soldered connectors that forced a flipping of the display...
Assuming you don't want to go into the Axim and poke around with pins, you may want to ask the creators of NYDITOT or Jimmy Landscape if they are willing to add such a mode.
Mind you that this will not work with programs that use GAPI (like Mapopolis or TomTom Navigator 2004) since those access the display directly, avoiding any drivers. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the idea, can't do any harm to send them an email.
Just seemed like a fun idea. Does CoPilot use GAPI? It supports the landscape setting in-built in PPC2003SE so it might support mirror-imaging.
I'm suprised there haven't beeen other attempts at HUDs seeing as there is so much talk about dashboard mountings and the like. I saw a bloke on Discovery(or similar) rig up a system in his Nissan Micra by installing a computer and using a CD lid to reflect the light from a small LCD. Odd.
Thanks for replying. |

HUDs are just around the corner. I guess next year we will see the first real ones.
The problem with the Pocket PC screens is they get smaller, not bigger. What you really need is a pocket projector with DLP (prototypes do already exist) and then the mirroring can be done by the projector. _________________ Lutz

Well dotPocket can flip the screen around on a PDA, but i would do a Full Backup before trying it.

Are you sure? I think by "flip" they just mean "rotate 180 degees"
Will need to test... _________________ Lutz
