|
|
I have a Dell axim x5 and tom tom 2.
This is probably a simple thing but I have downloaded checkpoint2 and the speedcamera data base. in the instructions it states to copy the following files...POCKETGPS_UK_SC.OV2 and POCKETGPS_UK_SC.BMP. However I can't see these files.
I have coppied all the other ov.2 files but when looking for the poi's check box for pois i have downloaded in tom tom only the default ones show, and not any other.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks |

David, can i join you in the queue? I have the same problem
I am a bit confused as to the correct order in which to download the files.
I have the print out for both Checkpoint and GPSassist, but they appear to be the same instructions.
Then i was direcyted to anoother site wfrom which i can download GPSAssist 2.1.1.14 Do i need this on the Dell?
and i cant see the files you refer to,
And i read on other people doing things to the POI on tomtom, how is this done.Apologies to those more adept at these things, but some really simple advice,eg 1)press this, 2) do that etc would really help an old duffer like me!
Thanks |

Hi David2912 and silverfoxcc,
Keep to CheckPOInt 2.0.2 for the time being as it’s free. When you want to use the additional features that GPSAssist has then you can trial GPSAssist for a limited period (40 starts) before you have to register it for €27.00. I like and actually prefer GPSAssist to CheckPOInt, but I used CheckPOInt first in order to learn about POI Detectors.
With our Camera databases, firstly unzip the file and decide which databases (.OV2 files) you wish to have on your PPC. You must also select the .BMP file of the same name for each .OV2 file. The .BMP file is the icon file that shows the location on the screen.
Once you have copied the .OV2 and .BMP files to your PPC, you need to shutdown and restart TomTom Navigator. If this doesn’t work the try a soft reset.
You should now see the new POI icon in the “Show points of interest” screen in the Properties screen. If this is the case, you are ready to set up CheckPOInt for alerting you.

Robert/David
Just copied all the files across and it looks like the poi are showing.
How do advise of any changes that we find?
I think there is a chap on a newsgroup uk driving that puts on details of new cameras
Thanks for the advice

Hi Ron,
Sounds like you’re winning. Have you got a CheckPOInt warning you of cameras?
If you contact Richard (Oldie), on this forum, with any updates then he will update the database. You can contact him via email:
Cameras [at] PocketGPSWorld [dot] com

Robert,
I have filled in all the screens with warning times in.but havent gone out yet to play with it.
will put it in the car tomorrow and deviate via a known sight on the system
Its a shame you cannot specify the limit for each location!!!

Hi Ron,

I have good news for you, you can specify the speed limit for each camera location. I don’t know where you’re based (please update your profile ), but in Oxfordshire, Bo Peep and I have surveyed what we believe to be all of the fixed speed camera locations and have reported/verified their details and speed limit back to Richard (Oldie).
Richards’s master database contains all of the reported cameras and their speed limits (if known). Once the majority of cameras have had their speed limit reported we will think about splitting the database into smaller databases for each speed limit.
Once you’re happy with CheckPOInt, you may want to trial and buy GPSAssist as it displays the icon of the speed camera as well as the name of the database and the id of the individual camera, which may have the speed limit shown by @30, @40, @50, etc.
I believe that the later versions of CheckPOInt (i.e. 3.xx) also display the icon, name of database, and id of the individual camera, i.e. like GPSAssist. However I have very limited experience of CheckPOInt 3.xx. I believe that it is harder to collect positions of new/moved cameras, with CheckPOInt 3.xx (than CheckPOInt 2.xx or GPSAssist), for the PocketGPSWorld camera database.
If you know of any new/moved/removed camera that needs its details (plus speed limit) adding to the database then please send them in as soon as you can.
