Could do with some help here people.
Does anyone know of any add-on that i could use to give the altitude of a location of where i am at the time.
I am using tomtom3 with a tomtom bluetooth reciever, i can get all the gps co-ordinates i need from it, but i can not find the altitude from it, and was wondering if there was a free or very cheap add on which would be able to give me this information.
if not does anyone know of a website that would be able to give me this information, i have tried streetmap and multimap and this dont give this information. |

Crux_view has the altitude information.
Be sceptical about it though- we know that some chipsets calculate it wrongly, and the HDOP is not that good either.
Don't use it for flying or other activities where exact altitude readings are critical. _________________ Lutz

Thats great thanks,
Doesn't need to be too accurate, just beed it for a rough estimate for installing a broadband sat system so it can work out its latency properly.
Where can i get it from?
cheers |

right got it downloaded and installed, but i am having some problems getting it to display the information that i need. i have tried the settings that are suggested in the manual, but it wont display the information.
the pda has a bluetooth connection to the reciever and it is recieving information as i have checked it with the gps display from tomtom without having tomtom loaded. i have tried all the different com ports and it just keeps coming up com port wont open, and on a couple of them it comes up red error!! reset gps? i have been selecting no as i dont want to mess up my tomtom settings.
i know that the reciever connects on com port 5, and i have tried this but it still isnt working, any idea's??
i am using a IPaq 1940 |

Yes, you probably use a bad, aggressive TomTom GPS driver. They are known to hijack the serial ports and prevent other programs from communicating with the GPS.
If your TomTOm GPS version is 2.08 to 3.03 then you need to uninstall that and re-install version 2.07 from our downloads page.
Read more about this issue in the TomTom Navigator forum. _________________ Lutz

As I said, use TomTom GPS 2.07 (make sure you really, really, really have uninstalled 3.03) and select your outgoing serial port (probably COM5 ) and 38400 NMEA.
If you reinstall TTGPS3.03 then you are back at square one. No other program will be able to use the receiver. _________________ Lutz

right i have read through the forum again, and i found something on it, i followed instructions best as could, and yet again it has screwed my tomtom up. it loads but wont connect to the reciever, i go to the gps page and try to select COM5 and the option isnt there in the drop down menu which is what it was using to connect to before, and when i try and get crux to connect to COM5 it just comes up with can not open port and when i try using COM8 it just comes up with Read Error, reset GPS and if i select yes it freeze's the pda up.
i have been soft reseting the pda, going to remove programmes and removing tomtom ~ gps from there, soft reseting, going back there, and there is nothing there with that name, then install 2.07, soft reseting and then trying again.
any suggestions as to what the problem is? |

Have you tried COM 6 and COM7?
What's the Outgoing COM port in your BT Manager settings?
ANYONE with a running 1940/TTN3 combo AND 2.07 GPS - can you please advise which port to use. _________________ Lutz

thanks for your help, but i am going to leave it and buy a seperate unit just for that purpose it will also come in useful for my off roading, i have had to install tomtom again, and i cant risk having that messed up and having it down for a day, as i use to help me cover about 600 miles a day all of them out in the middle of no where so the hassle of messing up tomtom aint worth it.
thanks again. |
