AvMap Geosat2 GPS Car Navigator review

The AvMap GeoSat2 is a new entry in the GPS navigation marketplace . It is a dedicated navigation device based on Teleatlas mapping data. It's main claim to fame is a massive 5.6 inch LCD screen.

With the introduction this year of GPS Navigation Systems on mobile phones with screens measuring barely 1.5 inches it comes as quite a change for us oldies with failing sight to have a massive 5.6 inch screen. One of the main applications for this is the RV or as we call them over here motor caravans. Either way what it does mean is that you can easily see the screen no matter how far you are away from it.

AvMap have kindly loaned me a GeoSat2 with UK maps pre-loaded for this review. With a street price of around £860 it is double the price of some of it's competition. This last year has seen a number of dedicated GPS navigation systems released so how does this navigation system measure up?

I found this interesting - and Mike one point you may consider when you review a product which you believe is aimed at the motorhome market is the facility we would all like to perhaps avoid narrow roads but low bridges is important.

Having looked hard and long at the options, I ended up with the Streetpilot 2610 - which I like, but these facilities are not available there either.

I like the larger screen, getting older and as reading glasses are no good for driving, the so this would indeed be helpful.

The option that perhaps could be best, is the Ipaq and TomTom - as there are so many POI's available (and one with low bridges) that I still wonder if this would have been better.

What I would like to see is a review, carried out side by side of a journey (simulated) from A-B on a route you know and which you felt comes out best.

Hi !

What I reproach to that famous Geosat is the no possibility to upload/dowload user marks to/from a PC.

The send and receive marks functions produce nothing
Does anyone know the trick to use them ?
