Hi,

Some time ago I reported a problem with TomTom stealing the BT GPS driver and preventing me using the BT GPS with other applications such as Fugawi OS maps.

I have recently found a solution which I thought I'd post.

I have deleted TomTom and Fugawi completely from my PDA. Then I have installed TomTom and UK maps to my 256MB SD card and Fugawi and maps to the hard disk of my PDA.

When I start to use TomTom, I initiate the software, then inintiate BT to connect to my BT GPS. When I finish using TomTom, I close the application and then close the BT link / stop BT. Then I start Fugawi and start the BT. Then when I have finished with Fugawi, I close the application and stop BT; even if I'm immediately going to start using TomTom, then I start the BT and so on. Thus the BT connection is always new / never overlaps between applications. To date, no problems / always get a fix.

Cheers,

W.

You're a tad late. The problem and it's solution have been discussed in this forum multiple times... Have a look around in this forum...

Could you be more specific? I had a look before posting and nothing popped out at me - not all 'problems with TT' are related to this specific issue I expect.

Did others come up with the same solution?

A simpler solution is to uninstall TomTom~GPS, this does not actually uninstall the GPS engine but stops TomTom from seizing the port.

The actual seizing problem is caused by TomTom changing the registry value for the serial port to one of its own dynamic link libraries (DLL) which effectively makes the Bluetooth stack use a TomTom driver. If you go into the registry and change the setting (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SerialX) back to the default (BtCeIf.dll) it will stop the lock up problem.

Ahh, a minor, insignificant detail...

We only know about the Pocket PC problems and how to solve them. We were not aware that the Palm version uses the same dirty tricks.

No doubt it is the same problem of a TomTom bluetooth driver being used instead of the normal bluetooth driver. All you will have to do is revert to the normal bluetooth driver. How you do that on a Palm is another question.

Just to make sure we are all talking about the same thing - this is about the PALM platform.

Any PALM user who can help out here?
