|
|
Having problems displaying the icons for the KFC overlay.
IPAQ 4150, TTN3 & CheckPOInt 2.02. Other overlays include all the safety camera database and LPG filling stations which all display correctly. I've downloaded and installed and re-downloaded ane re-installed the KFC overlay (twice), ticked all the right boxes yet the icons still don't show up. The files are all in the right place and if I enable any other overlay those icons show so it's not a memory/too many overlays problem.
Any ideas guys?
It's sad but I do like KFC!
Cheers,

Hi Marky,
Are the KFC .OV2 and .BMP files the same name?
Are the KFC .OV2 and .BMP files in the right map directory?
Does the KFC POI name appear in the Navigator properties?
Have you shut down and restarted TTNav (if in doubt soft reset)
If it’s still a problem then the KFC .BMP might be wrong. Copy it to your PC, open it in MS Paint, and save it again in 8 bit (256 colours). Then copy it back to the same place.

Hi Robert and thanks for the response.
Unfortunately the answer to all your questions is 'Yes' and I've resaved the .BMP file to 256 colours to make sure. Still no joy. The McDonalds overlay works fine (I just tried it for a test , I'm not a complete fast food freak, honest!!) it just seems to be the KFC one. The OV2 file is only 1.1kb in size compared to 25kb for the McDonalds equivalent and 28kb for an LPG filling station OV2 file. That seems a bit small so maybe there are no POIs in there. I downloaded it off this site and other people seem to have it working but I wonder if the info has been lost on the link somehow? I'm no expert as you may be able to tell so I could be talking out my arse but I can't see why it doesn't work.
Cheers,
Marky |

Have you tried navigating to the nearest KFC POI? It may be that there are no KFCS near where you are in the OV file. |

Never thought of that TB, I'll give it a go. However I did think it might be more of a southern database so I had a scroll around the country in map view but unfortunately no KFC's showed up anywhere. I can however see all the speed cameras in Devon if I so wish!! |

Have just downloaded it and the files seem to work fine for me. There are 29 KFCs in it, dotted around the UK. _________________ Barry Davies

Yeah thanks Barry I've finally found them. TB got it spot on when he said to navigate to the nearest. It turned out to be 91 miles away on the M62 and when I scrolled the map to the location, there it was!! I guess I was guilty of 2 things.
1. Take your time scrolling round the map as one type of icon can get lost among others, particularly if there's loads as in the speed camera database.
2. As a newbie I sort of expected the database to contain every KFC know to man!! Of course in hindsight it's easy to forget that it's just the work of an individual with a particular interest and therefore it's unlikely to be too comprehensive.
Best I get off my arse instead of talking through it and send the guy the co-ordinates of the KFC's in the North East.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi Marky,
Out of interest, where did you find the KFC POI?
Was it from POIplace?
Or was it from PocketGPSWorld’s own Points of Interest?
