|

Hi everyone, newbie here & a newbie with anything GPS related.
I'm off on the Plymouth-Dakar Charity Rally in a £100 Volvo, one of our sponsors is TrakM8 who are fitting the car out with a GPS linked with GSM Tracking device, it'll upload our route data as we drive along, which in turn will be uploaded to a website for everyone to see.
Now the TrakM8 system has a serial output for the standard GPS data. I have an MDAIII (xdaIII) & I know I can connect the two so we driving the Volvo can see where we are going or at least think we do.
Can anybody suggest what we need in terms of software, maps etc, I think we need a waypoint system & a map overlay, bear in mind we are going to be offroad for quite a bit & there are some waypoints of interest on route. We will be driving the Atalantic Route plus some detours.
Preferably simple & almost free would be great, just the gadgets in the car exceed the cars value by 10-1 8O |

Take a look at something like OziExplorer, Vito Navigator or GPSTuner. Maps will be out but the basic GPS functions, waypoints etc are what you need.
The first two have been reviewed by us, see here.
And don't forget to let us know how you get on, perhaps we can do a small news item? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Given that he's probably halfway across Africa by now, the reply may be a little late! |

No I'm still here!!!
I'm in the fourth group of 40 cars due to leave on Feb 18th, some of the other groups are currently on their way (or is that getting very lost) as we speak, Including my mates in a 1972 Ice Cream Van. |

Ok - my bad! I know some people have gone already... :D
Best of luck with the trip - post some photos or a trip report or something, and post the link for the trackm8 site so we can see your progress. |
