Hi Everyone
Had the ipaq for a little while now and am well impressed with it.
However we are now looking for some software to use it with our tractors, what we are looking for is something we can put the width of the machine we are using into it and it can then tell us how much area we have covered.
Also some software that is more acurate at speed ie: 7.5 mph
If anyone has any ideas I would be most gratefull
Regards
Keith

You could try GPS Tuner, which should allow you to record the distance travelled. If you multiply the distance travelled by the width of the machine, that will give you a fairly good approximation to the area covered - though you'll need to allow for overlap between runs and probably subtract a little from the result after allowing for overlap for turning round and similar. Pocket Excel is one way of repeatedly doing a few simple calculations.

The "Geo" licence may be of use if you want to be able to drive round a field and work out its area and/or perimeter.

I don't use GPS Tuner, but there is a demo version on the site that you can try (the limitations may not allow a full trial as there's a limit of 100 points in a track, but it will at least allow you to get a rough idea before parting with any money). The English user manual is here, which should give you a good idea of the capabilities of the software.

Hi Keith,

I saw a demonstration of the Fairport PAM software, which is from Australia, at the Royal Show in 2003. PAM looks like it would do the job however it does look rather expensive.

You may also want to have a look at Farm Works and Patchwork.

Regards,
