Hi there
New to the world of Pocket PC GPS, quite amazing though.
I've bought both Tom Tom and CoPilot, that might sound crazy but whilst I thought Tom Tom was great in many ways I have been astounded at how cr@p it was at navigating my home town of Bury St Edmunds. OK, so there are a number of one way streets, but they've been there so long there's no excuse regarding the Teleatlas maps. Absolutely awful when compared to NAvTeq. Mapping of the town is 100%.
So, question 1.
It doesn't seem like I can install both peices of software as Copilot wouldn't load until I de-installed Tom Tom. Does anyone have any eperience of this? I also tried to install on separate memory cards but the problem seems to lie with what's installed on the Pocket PC. Ideally I would like both on there.
Question 2.
Co-pilot. Why is the volume so much worse than TomTom? Anyway, is the only solution to get an external speaker or has anyone experimented editing the *.wav files. Not sure if the female TTS is any better?
Question 3.
Now I want to go for nav software for hiking. There seems to be a lot of software but anyone care to recommend the best? In terms of mapping, it looks like I have to pay for UK maps, any recommendations there? Was tempted to go fro the Memory-Map whole UK pack but anyone know if it's any good?
Oops, I might have dressed that up as three questions but I think there's more like 7. Sorry :D
Many thanks in anticipation.
PS. Anyone know how to get landscape mode in Copliot. Seems to esacape me. (Ooops 8! 8O ) |

1) You need to deinstall the TomTom ~GPS driver (completely) and then re-install the GPS driver 2.07 from our downloads page - this will allow you to run other navigation programs besides TomTom
2) Are you using wave files or TTS (Text-to-speech) with CoPilot? If you use Wav files you can manipulate them with the Windows Sound Recorder to boost their volume (but it will distort them if you overdo it).
You cannot manipulate the TTS, and it's also potentially less loud.
3) Memory Map is not bad. You can also use OziExplorer or some freeware packages - but there you must calibrate the maps yourself.
8 ) Landscape mode??? _________________ Lutz

Many thanks, very helpful.
I'm sure I read in the review on this site that Copilot Live has a landscape mode.
In fact, yes, it says so in the review. But not sure what I have to do.

You see, I don't have a WM2003SE device, so I didn't know about that. All you need to do is switch your WM2003SE device into Landscape mode, and the program will auto-sense that and re-arrange the controls. _________________ Lutz

WM2003SE devices oftenhave a hardware button set up by default to switch easily from portrait to landscape mode and vice versa - on my iPAQ hx4700, it's a long push on the calendar button.
The other way to change orientation is to use Start Menu -> Settings, System tab, Screen - there's orientation options in the General tab.
Most programs that support landscape orientation require WM2003SE.
