Morning all
You'll have to excuse me as I'm as technically minded as a rhino!
I'm looking for a 'cheap-ish' sat nav system, around £150-200 with no monthly extra payments that has a screen & will voice-direct. But i have no idea what to get?
I've heard the tom tom is good - but expensive. I basically want something that is really easy to use and easy to install. Also i have no idea what all these with pcnotebooks are - do you need to buy extra equipment with them??
many thanks |

Hi technicallylame,
to the forum.
I guess that you’re in the UK, although it would help us if you could update your profile with your location as it does have a bearing on recommendations that we make.
£150 to £200 is rather low even nowadays. You may be able to get some cheap hardware (say from eBay) but if you are “technically minded as a rhino” then you might be better off getting something like TomTom Go, which is around the £420 mark at the moment.
You can either go the PDA route:
PDA (e.g. iPAQ 2210)
GPS Receiver (wired or wireless, i.e. Bluetooth)
Storage card (minimum 256mb)
Software (TomTom Navigator, CoPilot, etc)
Mounting system and power cables may also need to be found if not included
Or you could go for the single box:
TomTom Go

Once you have the SatNav system it is free to use. Unless of course you want the system to receive traffic data (if it can) so that you can be warned of hold-ups and get re-routed. This option will cost you extra and is a subscription-based service for most systems.

Hi Robert
Thanks for the reply. £400+ is a bit expensive as I'm quite poor, so I think I'll have to stick to maps & asking people for the time-being, but thanks anyway.
