Several websites offer the Navman 4420 for only 249 euro (preorder).
It seems a lot cheaper than the 4410 though it comes with SmartST V3 and all European maps (made this summer 2004 by Tele-atlas). The Navman website doesn't mention the 4420!
Does anyone know if this is a good buy or is there a reason that is 2/3 cheaper than the 4410 bundle? |

I would say that the V3 software alone would be well worth the wait. _________________ Tim |

Navman hardware model numbers appear to reflect the software that comes with the hardware
The 4400 (which I have) came with SmartST Pro V1. The 4410 was the same hardware but with the v2 software. I therefore presume that the 4420 is the same hardware with the v3 software.
(The same thing seems to hold true for the Palm related models.)
However, the v1 & v2 software came with full European maps (or at least mine did). As far as I know (and, I'm afraid, contrary to what you say above) v3 comes with full UK maps and "main road" (rather than street level) maps of Europe, with the option to unlock the full European maps (for a price).
This would explain the price difference. |

BGF, you could be right.
Take a look at the offer at http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=116587
I fyou scroll down they say Pan European, Street Level Maps for ‘Door to Door’ Routing and they cover all European countries.
Are they referring to the basemap? |

I wouldn't read too much in what you are reading on those sites.
These new products have not been announced so the information/prices you are reading could well be incorrect.
Speculation seems rife at the moment as is sometimes the case in these situations. _________________ Ian.

That Expansys ad refers to V2 software.
Full 5 Letter Postcode Search in Version 2. Mind you, it also says you can 'Plan a walking route', but I can't do this with my V2 software and I don't think it's a feature of V3, either! _________________ Tim |

I finally found out why the Navman 4420 with SmartST V3 is much cheaper. It comes with a streetlevel-map of only one country. The V3 package of all European countries is sold now seperately, I can buy it now for 229 euro.
So actually they raised the price if you want to have Europe at streetlevel! |
