Please read the above post in the Palm forum. TomTom seem to have removed Navigator for Palm from the software only cd in order to make Palm owners buy their hardware. Wonder if this is covered by competition law...
If the Palm software distributed on the navigator cd worked fine three months ago, why does it suddenly require TomTom's own hardware???
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to apply leverage to TomTom to make this available again? |

Very strange indeed. On the other hand, TomTom for the Palm is technically different from TomTom for Pocket PC (it uses a different rendering engine, and runs as version 4). Locking to hardware is clearly an attempt to cut down on support costs. _________________ Lutz

I wonder then if the pocketpc tomtom nav 4 (when it arrives) will only be available with a gps solution?
This is another crazy decision - forcing people with palms and who have there own receiver to either buy another gps unit if they want to use tomtom's software or buy the software from another developer. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

Yes, it's crazy, and it has failed before for other vendors. Locking to hardware is never a good decision. _________________ Lutz

Well, I did manage to get Navigator on my Palm. Let's just say some external help. It works well with the Emtac receiver. Kicks mapsonic's a*se.
Clear conscience as I used the software code from the CD I bought to get an activation code from TomTom, so nobody's out of pocket.
Shouldn't have to do this though! |

True, tomtom is miles ahead of mapsonic but when people see my Sony Clie running tomtom and ask "How can I get that?" I reply, "forget it it's too complicated" _________________ Everywhere and nowhere

When somethings locked to a certain type of hardware there always seems to be a way round it.
Companies that try to force you into buying there hardware to make there software work seem to be milking the market, especially when you've already got something that works perfectly with a gps system.
When you want to buy a new gps software why should you also have to buy a new receiver?
Is it greed? |

When companies act like this users feel justified in breaking the terms of the licence agreement. They feel ripped off and don't feel so bad about bending the rules. Is it revenge?
