|
|
I'm trying to educate myself about the various possibilities for a GPS/cell phone combination but I'm finding little information about the subject.
Does anyone know a source on the Internet for such info? I've read the reviews here and a few articles but nothing that gives me the "big picture" as far as what the choices are and the pros and cons of each.
And perhaps someone can clarify the term "SmartPhone." On the page for SmartPhone Street Routing Software Reviews, "SmartPhone" is used under both Windows and Symbian and that confused me. I thought SmartPhone was a Windows term. What exactly is "SmartPhone?"
Thanks a bunch! |

A good website for starters is http://smartphonethoughts.com as well as http://ppcw.net
Your subject is actually misleading as well - GPS cell phones are not yet available too widely. What you mean are BlueTooth enabled phones.
A GPS Smartphone will have an integrated GPS antenna - today's smartphones require an external GPS receiver.
As for Symbian/Windows Mobile - this is purely a marketing confusion. Obviously "Smartphone" sounds too nice to let go of the term, so both the Symbian and the Windows CE based devices claim to be Smartphones. Sometimes you see "SmartPhone" (capitalized) but that doesn't really add any value.
It doesn't matter much - most of today's software is ported to both platforms. So the biggest difference is performance and screen size. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the links, lbendlin.
You say "GPS cell phones are not yet available too widely." Does this mean a true GPS/cell phone exists? If so, who makes it? |
