|
|
We are pleased to let you know that CamerAlert has now been updated to work with newer phones running Android 10 and above.
The app can be downloaded here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert
Thank you for your patience with this - it has been much more difficult that we first imagined! |

As per the title, there are no camera visible on the map - and yes, I've downloaded the latest database.
Initially the app crashed every time I started it, reporting there was a bug in the app - I had to power-cycle the phone to get it working, so something is not right.
Alos, why are the data/times for any forum posts just garbage? |

It's designed for driving. They will show up once you have a GPS signal and are moving. During development there were stability issues linked to showing hundreds of cameras on the map as you were scrolling round so it was decided that, for now, to change the icon refresh process. The intended purpose of the app is for when driving so this was the focus.
I am aware that scrolling around the map to see what is nearby (and for peace of mind too) is useful and it is something that will be looked into getting added at a later date. For now the focus was giving camera alerts when driving and allowing easy submission.

I'm going to take a guess that you're using a Samsung Galaxy S24 running Android 14 (or 15)? THis seems to be a device-specific crash related to the official Android SDK - i.e. Samsung have customised their iteration of Android to the point where things don't work as they're meant to.

Can you give an example? Also check your forum profile ( https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=profile&mode=editprofile ) and make sure the time zone is GMT and the date format is set to: D M d, Y g:i a |

Leo - we've got to the bottom of your crash. It was caused by CloudFlare kicking in due to the firewall.
The firewall has been updated to allow CamerAlert requests and the app has been 'hardened' to handle the error better. |

There is also a Samsung-specific crash which Google suspect is a bug within the SDK itself and not anything we have control over. We will keep looking into it but we have not been able to reproduce it ourselves yet. |

I don't think the rotate map function is working properly. When I turn it on to face the same way as my direction of travel it doesn't seem to work.
Anyone else found this? |

You need to tap the car icon at the bottom left to turn on 'Driving Mode' - this will then angle the map and rotate accordingly.
This will be activated by default in the next update.

I have used the settings menu to orientate the map in direction of travel, the Car Icon on the bottom left of the main screen only seems to toggle between 2D and 3D. |

It does 'appear' to do that but it needs to be in '3D' (i.e. 'Driving Mode') for the map to rotate once driving.
In '2D' (i.e. 'Overhead Mode') the map is always north-up.
The car icon will be highlighted accordingly in the next update (at present the only way to tell if you're in driving mode or not is the logo colour at the top right (which will also be changing in the next update).
Currently:
Driving Mode - map will rotate when driving - red logo top right.
Overhead Mode - north up map, no rotation - blue logo top right.
Next update:
Driving Mode (car icon highlighted) - map will rotate when driving - blue logo top right.
Overhead Mode (car icon grey) - north up map, no rotation - red logo top right.

Does the Cameralert app include French cameras? Or other European countries. |

Yes, it includes our global database. It is, however, your responsibility to close the app and not use it in countries where they are not allowed.
Full list of camera numbers/types per country can be found here: https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/activecams.php

Thanks once again Mike, having toured Europe fairly extensively I am well versed in the need to shut down the app if stopped in countries where it's not allowed. |
