|
|
The A588 between Lancaster and Hambleton (approx 20miles) is now festooned with average speed cameras, ranging in speed limits from
30-60mph....there are about 30 of them.
They were installed and working a year ago but nothing in the PGPSW database is showing up when using either the CamerAlert app or the Garmin PND updates.
Can these cameras be included if possible?
There should have been an update from the council a year ago about these....
or are you just waiting for people to report them?
Surely you cant expect people to report 30 of them to you.
If that's how it works then the DB will fail.
PS - The WAZE DB has them in!
Cheers

Yes, we need alerting via accurate location submissions
Unless we know the location, direction and speed we don't have enough info _________________ DashCam:

I mean, we're in the 22nd year of the database which has always relied on user submissions. It's a community - those who help and submit basically get it for free. Those who don't want to, pay.
You are welcome to submit some and when confirmed you may qualify for free subscription.
If I get chance I'll take a 'drive' through StreetView and see what I can add from there. |

OK, so from Skippool, through Hambleton up to the 90 degree right hand turn south of Preesall (Burned House Lane) I have added the 60/NSL, 30, 50, 40, and 30 stretches of average speed cams.
After that, Streetview is possibly too old (2022) and I'm not seeing any cameras up to the 90 degree right hand turn (Head Dyke Lane).
Then we get to the 60mph zone and these cameras have been in the database for over 5 years now so I'm not sure why you're not getting alerts for those?
At the end of the 60 zone where it drops to 30 there are no more cameras on that stretch (Streetview 2022), through Stake Pool, up to just north of Fisher's Row.
Where i turns to NSL/60, from what I can find online, there is another average speed zone here but I cannot see the cameras on Streetview (2022) so we may need someone to actually submit these ones. Further north-east Streetview is even older at 2021 - right up to Cockerham.
Moving north from Cockerham through the 40 zone there's nothing on Streetview (2022-2021) all the way up to Lancaster.
So I've added a fair chunk but it would be helpful for yourself as well as other users to submit any missing ones - particularly the long 60/NSL stretch from Fisher's Row to Cockerham and the stretch North of Cockerham up to Lancaster. |

it shouldn't be solely on users to report every single camera, especially when there's such a large number. It does make you wonder about the efficiency of the database if it's missing this many. If Waze can stay on top of it, there’s no reason others can’t. Hopefully, they catch up soon. |

Google relies on user submissions as well
I don't know about Waze, don't like it, but Google Maps has very few cameras
If you have access to a database or know where one is then please tell _________________ DashCam:

Google owns Waze. Waze data is crowdsourced the same as ours. |

It's worked for 22 years. We also use official data where available but that's very sparse and usually very vague in terms of locations.

Why not subscribe and see for yourself rather than basing your judgement on a single forum post?

Y’know MaFt, every time I see posts like these two plonkers are wasting pixels on, I ask myself why you give them the time of day? Honestly, they have no idea and nothing better to do than stick pins in you. _________________ Dennis

It's odd that the PGPSW database hasn't been updated, especially if Waze already has them. You'd think with 30 cameras over 20 miles, the council or someone would have flagged it sooner. Relying on users to report all of them seems a bit much, to be honest. Hopefully, they'll get it sorted soon otherwise, what's the point of the database? Cheers! |

I don't know how Waze operates
Does it just accept all submissions regardless ?
If so then taking my verifications as just one example, over 75% could be wrong. A lot of submissions I've seen are CCTV, ANPR and other similar furniture. Plus the locations are frequently wrong by hundreds of yards due to the time between spotting a camera and pressing the button
Waze may have more cameras but ours are accurate
We also operate a benefit of doubt system where if we get enough reports of new or missing cameras then they get added. If you have spotted 30 missing cameras in 20 miles then not enough members have submitted them which makes verification even more necessary necessary _________________ DashCam:

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean about the council flagging it sooner? The council know about them because they installed them. The issue is that they don't publish the exact locations of the cameras just that there are cameras on the road. There is no location map on their website https://lancsroadsafety.co.uk/
Here is an official map of the road: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/media/937706/safer-roads-fund-a588.pdf (taken from https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/council/strategies-policies-plans/roads-parking-and-travel/major-transport-schemes/safer-roads-fund-programme/) . As you can see it is literally just showing the road and nothing about speeds or camera placements. It is of zero use whatsoever.
We have always relied on user submissions as well as official sources. As I said previously, have you actually used our database to check it's accuracy? Or even just scrolled around your local area on our submission map to check what we have? Or are you basing your opinion on one, single post which as you can see from my earlier posts has been proactively dealt with? I am even going to be doing a 160 mile trip on Sunday to check for any that I've not been able to see on StreetView and other sources.
For info we have 28 average speed cameras on this stretch that are confirmed and 6 that need checking for accurate locations. This data is freely available to see on our submission map here: https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&op=SubmitCamera&lat=53.87343&lon=-2.95571 |

From their website: https://support.google.com/waze/answer/7052887
Quote: | Note: Speed cameras are added to the map based on reports from our partners and map editors – if a speed camera wasn't reported by an editor or partner, Waze may not know about it. |

How do you qualify to post this rubbish? You signed up to this website nine days ago, you don’t pay for the database, you’re just a troll. The database was started over 20 years ago by a group of GENEROUS enthusiasts who already had their own local databases, joined them together and put it out, free of charge, to allcomers, who were invited to join in, submit changes and updates for mutual benefit. It worked so well that it became the best out there and still is. It was so big a job to run that it became necessary to actually employ someone to do it, and eventually a subscription was introduced. So now we get freeloaders who find themselves with such pathetic lives that they get their thrills by knocking the database. Some of them are also probably using cloned stuff to get free TV and music. It takes all sorts. _________________ Dennis

Having a look at the Waze editor now to compare. Quite a lot of the cameras on that stretch were added on 19th August 2024. Some that we have had in the database for 5 years.
A handful were late 2023. But most are recent additions. So it looks like Waze DID have some at the time of the initial post but certainly not all of them.
