Google maps and alerts

If I use my Samsung phone in a car with Android Auto I can use Google maps and STA together so that I can see Google maps, get the directions, and hear the camera warnings on the car's system. If I use the same phone in a car without Android Auto I can either see the map and get directions or get camera alerts, but not both. If Google maps are on the phone screen it seems to silence STA.
It is probably a setting that needs changing but I haven't worked out which one yet. Any help appreciated.

With my older car I had STA set to work like a pseudo phone call, but, I didn't use Google Maps

Since having AA in my newer car I've got STA set to work in multimedia mode instead

That's the setting I'd be looking at

As far as I can see i have the correct permissions. It just seems funny that on the car with AA it works OK, but on the other without AA it won't work on just the phone. So far I have got round it by using an old phone with Camera Alert and the other phone for maps
